The official NFL thread

I get the equality argument but the conclusion is backwards. If Ray rice were gay it's still domestic violence.

Is this referring to me? If it is, it has completely missed my point. All I'm saying is that it shouldn't matter what gender the person he smacked out was, he sucker punched another human being in the head in an elevator. That there is a massive disparity in size and strength only makes the matter worse. Gender shouldn't even be part of the discussion.

I understand your point and I almost agree to some extent. However I just don't think men and women of the same size are equal physically.

That depends on other physiological traits though. A 6'0 200 pound man with 15-17% body fat and 6'0 200 pound woman of similar body fat would have roughly equivalent strength. Strength is a function of muscle mass, not gender. It's just easier for men to gain muscle mass and be larger.

That's all I'm really saying, gender shouldn't play a role on whether or not you'd punch out someone smaller and weaker than you. There are very few examples of when that's acceptable and just about all of those have to do with protecting yourself from potentially damaging physical attacks.

I've heard all sorts of white knight bullshit in my life about how even if a woman is hitting you, it's not "right" to sort her shit out. I've always felt that was bullshit. If someone isn't going to act right, and they're the ones taking it to the physical, sometimes they have to learn a lesson. That doesn't mean that you smash the shit out of them, but sort them out until they're no longer willing to try to do me any more harm.

It is obvious you just wait until they go to the bathroom so you can shoot them through the door.

As bad as the Giants look, Zona is on a short travel week going West to East and on the Road.

That seems like a trappy trappy ugly game

I was leaning Tampa, Tennessee and Washington....but think the latter 2 could lose. So i'm going TBay

4 rules i have in Survivor

1) No road teasm
2) Never follow the crowd with the obvious
3) No division games
4) No Monday/Thursday Nighters

Obviously it's hard to obey all 4 later on, but early i dig it.

Washington for me.

I'd feel pretty bad hitting a woman unless it was some real threatening situation. If she has a knife, gun or is some mma freak tossing me around lol(which women rarely are). Other than that women generally have very little in terms of punching ability(from my experience you'd get more like a cat fight..which was actually shown in one of the videos where she tried to punch him but didn't really do anything)..Even though i'm much smaller i've given dudes who are 25-30 lbs heavier punches where i knocked them out...never would do that to a woman unless it was one of those instances above..If you get into these situations best way to deal with it is to walk away or call police if she isn't leaving you alone..Prison can be a bitch and you have no one but yourself to blame for not using your head.

If a woman is wailing on a guy, by all means defend yourself. I agree.

But that's not at all the situation here - and no, you don't need the audio portion of the tape to figure that out.

Then we agree

Then we agree again.

I'm not defending Ray Rice, I'm just saying that it doesn't matter who he sucker punched and viciously knocked out cold, he's a scumbag for it, regardless of who he is.

Yeah I misunderstood what you were saying. I agree with you.

I do think it matters that it is his wife/SO as opposed to anyone else because (a) doing that to someone you supposedly love is just disturbing and (b) the risk of repeated occurrence (not just physical) is much higher and those people need greater protection.

His complete lack of remorse in the moments after it happened, strongly indicate to me that this wasn't the first time he hit a woman.

Not the kind of evidence you could use in a courtroom, but if I was betting my lifesavings on the matter.....I sure wouldn't bet that the first time this ever occurred, it just so happened it was caught on tape for the world to see.

Yeah, both fair points. Though I don't think there's anyone you could sucker punch in an elevator without coming off as at least a bit of a psychopath

and included a cold cocking.

Yeah, I agree. This is the way things are around the Rice household. Maybe not with this severity, but there has likely been "altercations" before.

Is it true the NFL is having Rihanna perform before the Ravens game tonight??? Was Chris Brown busy or is trotting Rihanna out Goudell's attempt at "patching things up"?

Can't be true, is it?

By no means am I defending Rice at all cause I think the guy is a piece of shit for this. He could easily have restrained her and neither would have been injured in the slightest... however I wouldn't call that a sucker punch. She was definitely attacking him.

Haven't seen the video, didn't want to look like I was supporting spousal abuse /s

Seriously though, haven't seen the video, just heard it described as a sucker punch.

It's far more likely she was "knocked out" hitting her head on the railing. Not that that's an excuse, since obviously she hit her head because he punched her. Just seems to me that Greg Hardy's incident was far, far worse. Yet I haven't heard him compared to Hitler. The lesson for society here is, as always ... don't get caught on tape.

But then, even the “waiting for the facts” argument has holes in it, because Greg Hardy played Sunday, too. The Panthers All-Pro defensive end was found guilty this summer of domestic violence. His ex-girlfriend says Hardy slammed her arm with a toilet seat and put her in a choke hold.

“He looked me in my eyes and he told me he was going to kill me,” the 24-year-old woman said. “I was so scared I wanted to die. When he loosened his grip slightly, I said, ‘Just do it. Kill me.’”

Here’s another description of events, from the complaint accompanying the restraining order that Hardy’s girlfriend filed:

At one point during their struggle, she said in her complaint that Hardy picked her up and threw her into a tub, then dragged her across the floor by her hair. As Hardy screamed threats, Holder said he lifted her over his head and threw her on a couch “covered in assault rifles and/or shotguns.”
