The official NFL thread

I think Cleveland could go Allen

leaving Darnold to the Giants and Rosen to the Jets and anyone wanting Mayfield ( Bills, Dolphins, Cardinals, Saints) maybe needing to move up.

Yeah, Allen probably goes top 3. The NFL is the least forward thinking league when it comes to analytics. And Allen is the complete package if you don't care about the numbers.

The Browns have also tried analytics for the past 2-3 years hiring Depodesta....the baseball guy.

When they cleaned house they went back to football people

Allen was so damn sexy at the combine, and with Wentz success, I get people wanting to chase that unicorn....but like 101 says, the odds of hitting on a QB are so slim as it is, it's hard to believe one who had such poor accuracy in college would blossom in the pros.

He really needs to land in the ideal spot, and likely sit for two years, if he's going to pan out.

If he does tho, I wouldn't be shocked if he was the best of the bunch.

The NFL really needs a development league. Its crazy that a team will invest tens of millions into a guy like Allen and he just won't play a game for a year or two. How can you develop players like that?

We saw it with Hackenberg. The guy has a huge arm and legit talent. But he didn't improve at all in two years. But what can you expect when he didn't play at all in two years.

They really should team up with Vince to get these kids some playing time.

Miami

Let him sit for the remaining 2 years of Tannehill's contract

CFL should be the development league. Add a bunch of teams down south. Scrap the field dimensions and rules. Majority of the CFL talent comes from the US game anyway.

the player that intrigues me the most in the upcoming draft is Lamar Jackson. Could be one of the most exciting players since Vick.

It'll be really interesting to see what the Bills do. Lots of draft picks but after the Jets trade to 3 i'm not sure they'll find a willing trade partner for one of the top QB prospects. They could all be gone by Denver.

Agreed.

Hopefully he lands in a good spot (New Orleans?) cause he could be fun as hell to watch if brought along properly.

So PFF graded Mayfield as having THE two best seasons of any college QB since 2014, and 3 of the top 7 seasons.

I really want Rosen...and will be kinda choked if we could take him but pass on him in favor of Baker.

Gonna watch this now though, cause I do love PFF stuff...and everyone seems awfully confident that Baker is going to be our selection at 3....so I might have to start talking myself in to it.

I would be fine getting rid of the CFL but if it is going to be there, can't make it the same as NFL as that defeats the purpose of having our own league

Yep, I've done a good job talking myself into either.

Another analytic that loves Mayfield is Football Outsider's QBASE where he ranked #4 since 1997:

Philip Rivers - 1964
Carson Palmer - 1916
Donvan McNabb - 1799
Baker Mayfield - 1480
Russell Wilson - 1288
Peyton Manning - 1279
Marcus Mariota - 1277
Byron Leftwich - 1216
Aaron Rodgers - 1216
Ben Roethlisberger - 1211

Lots of great QBs on that list. Allen on the other hand is a -83. #anyonebutallen

Adam Schefter
Browns continue to keep the decision on their No. 1 pick a secret, but there is a mounting belief from HCs and GMs around the league that Cleveland will take Baker Mayfield.

Does a top ranking prospect fall to the Jets again?

All i have heard about this draft is how overrated the QBs are. Mayock's rank has the first QB at 7 (Darnold). Mayfield at 22.

Why they wouldn't take Barkley at #1 is beyond me.

Cause QB is forever and always the most important thing to draft and despite Fournette and Zeke of recent memory, RB is still the least important, you can find a good one in other rounds
