The official NFL thread

Jackson would have been phenomenal value imo...that coaching staff, with that kind of pure talent, plus a few years to develop him slowly.

I was terrified you'd take Jackson.

Jumping on the Matthews comparison, Darnold has the same mentality, which you absolutely need to be a starting QB in New York. He won't be overwhelmed or distracted by the pressure. He'll just keep grinding away doing his thing.

Still can't believe he actually fell.

But do you take a project in the first round? I dunno. People seem to think he’s a reach for the first round.

I am kind of surprised he didn't go in the first round. His college career was more impressive than Vick's.

I think ultimately its difficult to be a running QB in this era because of the toll it takes on your body. And you would have to revamp your offense around him. But that skill set is special.

I'm very okay with Minkah Fitzpatrick.

Didn't expect him to be there at 11.

Browns continue to stun me, Baker over Darnold was one level of wacky, Ward over Chubb is weapons grade moron.

Minkah is a great pick, only thing that makes it sting I suspect is it was one pick away from being Rosen, which would have been a steal on par with the Jets getting Darnold at 3.

Darnold/Chubb versus Baker/Ward could be horrific for Browns fans to watch over the next few years.....I'm rooting for them, cause I like Baker and they deserve to finally get one right. But goddamn id feel ill as a Browns fan today.

Bills took an even bigger project at 7....while paying a premium to move up to do so, haha.

Jackson has a skillset that I think Bill could have used from day one in various packages, while also grooming him for the long term.

Having said that, the fact he passed on him twice is all the evidence I need that it wasn't the right fit. It just seemed like an idea Bill moved to jump on that kind of value and turn that kind of skillset into a future stud.

My understanding is Miami was not taking Rosen over Minkah even if he was there, and perhaps not over Edwards or James

The front office cares too much about their jobs to draft a QB, and their loopy owner is old and wants to win now, so they are in the BPA that can help them mode, which is never good.

That said, i'm very okay with Minkah, and no QB was there anyways.

I think the Browns will end up looking good for taking Mayfield. He's a good QB. I just don't buy that size matters, or that he is too much of a fiery competitor.

The Bills though...

Yeah was a bit disappointed they didn't grab him with their second pick, but I assume that they didn't see a fit. They probably prefer a pure pocket passer based on what they've been offensively over the past couple of decades. I'd assume they'll pick a guy today that they can groom as Brady's heir apparent.

I don't think they'll look good taking him over Darnold....but I do think Baker will be just fine. Just like with Darnold, I think if he doesn't pan out, it's more the fault of their respective organizations than it is the player.

They're both guys with everything you need to succeed at the NFL level....just a matter of whether they get the proper coaching/management around them.

This time last year Darnold was viewed as the next Andrew Luck calibre prospect....then he lost three starting O-lineman to the draft & lost three more throughout the season. (USC sacks allowed went from 12 I'm 2016 to 30 in 2017).....so I think a lot of the weight of how Darnold pans out, rests on Bates/McCagnan on how he's coached up & how good a job they do building the O-line in front of him.

The Bills though....

@JimmyKempski
I just watched Gettleman's and Shurmur's Saquon Barkley presser. Highlight for me was Gettleman mimicking an analytics nerd by typing on an imaginary keyboard, while a half-awake Shurmur watches his fingers. Good luck, Giants fans.
