The official NFL thread

What a plot twist. FWIW, as a Vikings fan, I was a bit more interested in retaining Richardson than Barr. I long suspected the Vikings weren't that keen on Barr, since they didn't extend him last year. The Vikings MO has been to lock up their homegrown talent a yr before their rookie contract expires. (ie Hunter, Griffen, Rhodes, Kendricks, Harrison Smith).

IMO, the change of heart cuts both ways. The mitigating factor might be that this draft is deeper in DL than LB.

I went to some Vikings boards after we "signed" Barr....and they were all so chill about the move....bummed to lose him, happy for him to get paid, glad he went to the Jets (out of division/conference)....I was fine with him going back. (Contrast with Ravens fans, who seem like lil bitches).

I was excited about Barr cause the rushing potential was so high.....but the risk equally so. I'd love to acquire Griffen from you guys, given the speculation he might shake loose.

Also curious if the Jets couldn't swing a deal for Dee Ford & extend him.....Chiefs apparently want a second for him, but with Dee Ford expendable now, and their need for cheap speed on D, was thinking Lee + one our of thirds for Ford & a 6th could make sense.

Part of it is that Barr seemingly "disappears" for a few games every year. He plays fast and smart, allowing Zimmer to using him as a swiss army knife that doesn't necessarily rack up the glory stats. I was actually curious to see what he'd do in a 3-4 edge role.

As for Everson, he's 31 and eating up 10.9M in cap space. If he doesn't restructure his deal, it might be time for him to move on.

Yeah sounds like Gregg had similar plans for Barr except with much more of a focus on rushing the passer.....his versatility was definitely what intrigued us most about him.

Like you say tho, his compete level sounds like it's an issue....one game he"ll be the best defensive player on the field....and another you don't even recognize he's playing.

I kinda hope part of him returning to Minny was Zimmer promising to use him more off the edge ....love to see what he could do in that role. (also think as he's aged, his coverage skills aren't what they once were, so it'd make more sense to pin his ears back and let him rush).

Everson I loved as a prospect....so seeing him flourish despite his draft position, has always had me rooting for him. If we cant land a Ford/Houston/Ansah/Shaquil, etc. I'd love to get Everson....the lower cap hit would free us up to also add a CB.

Zimmer is as candid as any coach can be. This is what he said recently about Barr.

“Number one, he’s smart as heck, so I can tell him to do all kinds of different things, make all kinds of different checks and adjustments,” Zimmer said. “He’s got great size, length and speed. He dictates the game in a lot of different ways that don’t show up on the stat sheet, and to me that’s important.”

Yeah one of the things I was excited about with Barr was that Zimmer had chosen him to wear the mic & be his on field coach. (As was CJ Mosley in Baltimore).

It's a small thing....but when signing a D player from another squad, I love knowing he was the best guy on the field at assessing what plays were coming. Both Barr & CJ got very high praise for their pre-snap reads and sniffing out plays.

Barr is such a physical specimen too, loved his combination of length , speed & burst......starting to get bummed again over losing out on him, haha

No Paradis is a huge blow to the Jets. That would've really solidified that oline. I think they go for John Sullivan for the short term.Might need to draft a more long term solution.

Bills blew their load on Mitch Morse. Can’t say I blame them, their C position was horrid after Wood retired.

Seems like a great deal. I thought the Vikes would be in on that.

I was happy paying him $11-13m if needed....very weird we may not have even made him an offer. Especially given that Barr money became free.

Have to think he either has some sort of trade for a vet lined up, or likes C's in the draft he thinks he can get in the draft.

Still tho.....Paradis is a top center in the league, acquiring him for just money, even if you had to overpay, was a no brainer.

Paradis is a fair bit better than Morse.....and you did overpay (as does pretty much everyone in free agency) but he was a damn good get.

I'd kill to have Morse right now, haha. Was sure Paradis was ours.

Bills did well securing Mitch Morse. Elite in pass protection. Definitely a guy the Jets could've used to protect Darnold.

Really like the Crowder signing for the Jets. Let's see if they get Bell.

Yeah Crowder was a filthy signing ...I'm extremely bullish on that kind of fast twitch, ellusive slot receiver in a Gase' system. He was (imo) by far the best slot guy on the market, and has the ability to be a quality WR2 in certain packages.

He's lethal 1+1.

Really like him to be a 70+ catch guy, 850-950 yards and a half dozen TDs.

Made twice as valuable if defenses also have to worry about Bell releasing out of the backfield. Still praying on that.

Seriously Macc....go offer Paradis $12m per to change his mind. "Barr" set the table for people to change their mind this offseason. An extra $9-10m over 3 years should do the trick.

Christ.

Sounding like the Jets were waiting on Bell before commiting to Paradis and he took the Panthers offer. Huge blow to the Jets offseason if they get neither guy.

Weirder yet, it was by choice.....Schefter says we pulled out of Paradis talks.

I kinda suspect we're gonna deal a late round pick (or D. Lee) for someone wanting to move on from their C.

From everything I read Morse and Paradis were considered 1-2 by the experts with some choosing Morse and others Paradis but yeah, after doing some reading he seems like a good get. I wonder how much losing him will affect Mahomes next season.

I'm half expecting a trade for Rodney Hudson from the Raiders, stud Center on the final year of his deal.....Raiders/quasi rebuilding probably like to have that free money. Maybe D. Lee or a late pick for him.

Raiders always loved their speed guys, and Lee has that in spades.

If I'm a Chief fan, I lose no sleep over it. Morse missed 1/3 of the season last year. And he's been injured quite a bit. Their heir apparent at C, Austin Reiter, might be even better than Morse.
