The Official Post-Bitch 2025-26 Regular Season Thread

The last time this happened Dryden was like "I looked in the mirror and saw my candidate", he hired a creative data driven AGM and a hard as balls but free wheelin coach and we had the best 4 years this franchise has had since the 1960s.

Ken Dryden was a nerd decades before it was cool, at a time when it was decidedly uncool. Not much in common with Mats
 
Pelley is a nerd that is asking for a data driven process in making decisions

He is hiring Chayka, a guy that believes in some form of data driven decision making.

And sandwiched in between them is Sundin, who we don't know much about. I think nerds will win at least for as long as Pelley is around. And as long as Chayka is employed, I mean that's the whole point of hiring Chayka.

But I do wonder what Mats says if Chayka goes to him and says he needs to try to trade Max Domi. Because he kinda does need to do that. Mats is tiiiiiiight with Tie and Max.
 
And whatever you think of where they landed, this process was the first legit hiring practice this team has run for a GM maybe ever.

I think they walked into JFJ after peddie's power struggle with Quinn.

After that it went Fletcher in the interim role for a year -> Burke, who hired Nonis his long time servant, who was then named GM when Burke left, who was replaced as part of the Shanaplan, who hired Lou because he was Lou - > Dubas' promotion -> Tre because Shanahan liked the cut of his gib.

They definitely went to the market this time around.

I want to see them make quick work out of hiring Cassidy once they make this shit official. Now that's a data driven coach! Love hearing that guy talk numbers.
 
Friedman says Sundin is the VP of hockey ops and Chayka is GM.

Which is kind of strange to have a VP without the President, but they probably just want to pay him less.
 
I mean, maybe but seems interesting we heard so much about Gillis right away and then it went quiet and now we’re gonna we hire two people he seems to really love for non pres roles.
 
Friedman also said he only broke the Sundin news because he saw them at Harbour 60. They have kept things quiet.

Seems unlikely though.
 
They apparently interviewed Gillis only once, not the 5 times that people have reported. They just didn't proceed with him. I don't know, maybe he's the guy or the option of Mats says no, since gillis was never up for GM. But they're not hiring both.
