The Playoffs Thread

The Rangers advance to the ... Snowbird Series.

I am really pulling for the Bolts against the Rangers. Nothing personal against the Rangers....I actually like the players on the team but I just can't stand the style the play. Blocked shots and clutch and grab does not make for good hockey...although sadly it is winning hockey in todays NHL.

Regarding the Habs, they will never advance offensively until they have a new coach. Therrien is a great guy to instill discipline and advance a young team but I don't think his system allows for any offensive creativity or growth. The Habs are as good as they will be under the current coach and system.

Our old friend Brooks Orprick was at it again...he has not learned a thing from his checkered past. Another head targeted, another player concussed.

So happy the Rangers won, Lundqvist is just a wall in goal...joins some pretty elite company in Brodeur and Roy for the most OT wins in game 7 's in NHL history.

I think it's a pretty solid final four that are left!

Orpik is the Brian Marchment of his day ... and the league office is just as clueless how to handle a player with suck obvious disregard for the health of other players as they were back then.

I understand your complaint, but I really don't think this Rangers teams deserves to be lumped in with the Jacques Martin Senators or the Devils of the 90s. They play defensive hockey, sure, but it's not that dire dreadful stuff that we were subjected to back in the day. They have a lot of team speed and use it frequently in attack. They also don't goon it up very much while remaining a very physically present team. I like the balance in their style of play.

What do you have to do to get suspended in this league? Break a guys neck?

When Orpik put that hit on Cole, the league spouted and so did he that he was not a dirty player and was not known to be irresponsible, etc, but there was history that followed him from the minors. Last night loved Milbury calling him out on national TV.

Don't forget that Cole absorbed a good bit of blame for that too.

The league eventually caught up with Matt Cooke. It's taken far too long for Orpik to face similar scrutiny.

In that situation tied at 1 late in a Game 7, Orpick knows there is no retribution for that hit from the Rangers which makes it even more cowardly.

He just missed blowing up Marty St.Louis about 3 minutes before he nailed Boyle. What a punk!

Advantages of being short. Marty would have gotten drilled on that play had he been 6 inches taller.

Again, and this cannot be stated enough ... guys like Orpik who routinely hit to injure are one of the biggest problems in the modern game. The fact that the league can't seem to be bothered to do anything about it, well it says plenty about the quality of people who run this chicken farm.

And the NHLPA has to stop reflexively filing a grievance every time a tool like Orpik is suspended and spend more time worrying about the injured player.

But, but, but ... victim shaming is the true American past time.

Great opener to the Rangers/Bolts series yesterday. 2-1 Gers, but that game was TIGHT. Both teams have solid defensive plans to start with, and it'll be interesting to see how this unfolds.

I didn't stay up for most of that game last night, but that disallowed Andrew Shaw goal in OT was one of those all time heat of the battle moments that will forever be a classic.

Typical of many of these great teams, Andrew Shaw was a 5th round pick who is all over the place in the playoffs. We so sorely lack these type of productive character guys that the great teams seem to find in the mid-late rounds all of the time.

Meanwhile we are subjected to watching Frederick Andersen out there looking like a wall in the conference finals, knowing that he slipped through the Canes fingers. Ronnie would have one less problem to worry about if Andersen had signed with the Canes. Instead we are left wondering who our starting and backup goalies are going to be this year and next year all while Andersen solidifies his place as one of the best young goalies in the league.

Watching the playoffs, especially last night's game reminded me of the Andersen wound, what good hockey looks like and why playoff hockey is so fun to watch. I fell asleep midway in the 1st OT and woke up after it well over. As much as I enjoyed the game, it made me that much more pleased to know that JR was gone and overhauling is in the works.

I love playoff games for lastnight. This the third time in my life where I have fallen asleep during a game, awoke and was confused to see the game still on. Thought they were highlights until I shook the groginess.
