Cushion is gone now. We've fallen substantially back of teams like CAL/WPG, and are now just barely sitting on top of the next group that stretches from SJS all the way down to MTL in 13th.

Time for this slump to end.

If Montreal can manage to put together a few more wins before the break they'll be in good shape for at least a WC spot, creating a bit of separation from those below them now.

Price and Niemi are playing really well at the same time. It help when there are so many back-to-backs lately.

Habs would be smart to try and swing a trade for the best 1st line forward available.

IMHO they need a first pair LHD more than a 1st line forward, although someone like Panarin would be sweet! Would absolutely be too expensive though and there are no guarantees he'd resign in MTL. Rumor has it he wants to play in the NYC area which leaves Isles/Rags/Devs.

what kind of young assets do the habs have?

what are the chances that new bottom feeders like LA, CHI, ANA, PHI might move their aging but still damn good #1 Cs like Kopi, Toews, Getzlaf, Giroux?

Ya, no. The habs aren't contending for the title, no reason to part with young assets.

We match up well with teams like that

We seem to struggle more against the heavy forecheck teams

Not that they should trade them because they shouldn't but just from the WJC the Habs have:

Ryan Poehling - MVP and best forward of the tournament
Alexander Romanov - Named Best Defenseman
Jesse Ylonen - big part of gold winning Finland
Cayden Primeau (G) - 1.61 gaa and .936 SV % for USA
Nick Suzuki
Josh Brook

The Habs have some assets. I don't want to see any of those guys moved though. They're all NHL bound.

They do have some secondary prospects that can be moved though:

Jacob Olofsson
Joel Teasdale
Cole Fonstad
Jake Evans
Cale Fleury
Joni Ikonen

Jake Evans may be the best in the bunch of B prospects there.

No reason to trade any of those guys unless it's for a young player that will be around for a while.

You just don't trade prospects for rentals when your ceiling is to be a bubble team regardless.

Just let Carey Price continue to do his thing and hope for the best. This prolonged hot stretch is because of him. He's ****ing awesome right now.

But it's not the time to trade prospects.

If the Habs are destined for a mid-round first then I'd rather see the playoffs, even if it is one series.
