haha I didn't say that....but one's injury track record does affect value plus he plays a style that seems to be at odds with his physical stature (and I'm afraid he's stuck with his height until he dies)

he was acquired as an expansion draft casualty though. not really a repeatable scenario. and we lost him for nothing too. we basically traded whatever the package was for McCann to keep Kerf/Holl.

personally I wouldn't count him.

even if you do, that's still what, two guys over like five years?

A few non chronic injuries doesn't turn a top prospect into not a top prospect. As for his style, imo way too much is being made of that. He's a little too gangster when it comes to throwing his body into traffic to compete for pucks. That's easy to adjust, that's not a style of play. His "style of play" using his feet to find space in the centre of the rink to unload his shot. He's a pure sniper, he's not Gallagher.
 
bottom line: of course my package is too much if Nick fulfills the destiny you all carved out for him; churning out 30goals/60 points for the next 5 years

maybe it happens....until then, he's just an intriguing prospect IMO
 
The salary retention thing may increase the cost for some of these players. I'll agree with CH1 there. But if other teams undervalue Robertson then there's no point in trading a guy with that kind of production without getting value back.

So maybe Kane's deal is the most expensive in deadline history like CH1 is implying, but I'd force Chicago into taking some of the more hyped/overrated prospects instead of a guy that is potentially undervalued. Knies + 1st is a strong base. Knies is the modern day Patrice Cormier. Teams will love him.
 
Wanted to take a look at potential Kane destinations and their best trade assets

Florida - Lundell, Denisenko, Samoskevich. I don't see a path here without them including Lundell, which if they did, they can have him. Denisenko & Samoskevich are closer to being a Hirvonen than they are a Knies-Robertson-Niemela.
Tampa - Jack Thompson, Cal Foote? The cupboards are bare baby.
Boston - Lysell, DeBrusk. Not as bare as Tampa, but not far off. Lysell is a former 1st but his D+1 in the WHL wasn't overly inspiring. Also, midget.
NYR - LAF, Kaaaak, Kravstov if disgruntled Russian 22-23 yr olds are your thing, Othmann. They could get this done if they wanted to, yeah.
Carolina - Does he waive to go here? Maybe? Necas, Jarvis, Ryan Suzuki is to the Suzuki family as Alex Nylander is to the Nylanders...but sure, Drury, Koivunen, Heimosalmi, Morrow. Owners of the most over rated prospect pool in the league for my money, but I wouldn't be shocked if NHL front offices bought it. An abundance of assets though. Could easily swing the deal, and easily beat us without giving up core assets.
Pittsburgh - Again, does he waive? Probably. Cupboards bare...Poulin, and Poulin, and Poulin. He's also junk.
Washington - McMichael, Lapierre is kind of shit, but a former 1st, Ferehavy is maybe enough of a thing, Protas is 6'6...so maybe? I don't see it without them adding McMichael. I would disagree with rating McMichael higher than Robertson, but then again I don't want to trade Robertson. McMichael over Knies though, yeah all day.
Colorado - Ugly looking if they don't want to poach from the big club. Olausson is junk, Foudy is probably junk. They're not giving up Newhook after losing Kadri in free agency.
Minny - I don't see Kane waiving to go to Minny...but maybe staying in division and close enough to Chicago is important to him? Addison, Faber, Rossi, Lambos. Definitely enough to get it done, and enough to outbid us if they're willing to part with Rossi.
St Louis - Another maybe on waiving to go here, or even on Chicago being willing to move him in division without a grotesque overpay. Neighbours & Bolduc are both recent firsts who are okay prospects. Probably in that Knies range, though I'd be surprised if either were preferred by a NHL front office over Knies. Cupboards are pretty bare here for trade stock.

So yeah, even if Kane were willing to cast a fairly wide net, I don't see many teams that could even force us to bid up beyond something like Knies + 1st + Kerfoot. Florida if they gave up Lundell, Washington if they gave up McMichael, Carolina & the Rangers could bury us 100%, Minny with Rossi.

Kind of stops there.

Contending teams don’t usually have a whole lot of Robertson/Knies level prospects, really. They usually trade their firsts every year.
