One of the prospects going is Mattias Backman....this is sneaky, sneaky Jim Nill shit.

Backman came across from Sweden this year after being described by Hakan Andersson as a "Alex Edler clone" during his days in Sweden. He got lost in the shuffle in Grand Rapids with a bunch of incumbent defensive prospects that Detroit was being (too?) patient with. Backman got pissed off mid season, took his ball and went home. Since he got back, he's put up 16 points in 23 games (current Stars break out offensive defender, John Klingberg put up 28 in 50 before coming across the pond this season to put up 32 in 48 as a rookie), and despite spending the first 3 months of the season in the AHL, is 20th in defensive scoring in the SHL (2nd in PPG).

Detroit is going to regret how they handled this kid.
 
Detroit just traded the best defensive prospect in the SHL, and the highest scoring under 24 forward (he's 22) in the SHL...and a guaranteed 2nd, for Erik Cole...

Seriously. There are a tonne of ok-ish veteran D on the FA list to help insulate the kids available in the summer. If you can get something good for Polak, he should be gonzo.
 
Erik Cole was the most kamikaze guy I have ever seen in NHL history, I am surprised he is alive, let alone still playing. He has to be on duct tape by this time. I have nothing but praise for this guy, truly one of the most courageous NHLers I have ever laid eyes on.
 
Here's the thing with seller's markets... they only last as long as there are buyers. The buyers are dwindling.
 
Still 5 to 7 teams waiting on making moves with others who have made moves still looking. Prices will be high tomorrow
 
Boston, St.Louis haven't found a dance partner yet, they'll do something. LA is out of a playoff spot, maybe they get desperate again? Tampa Bay hasn't done anything yet and of course Montreal.
