FWIW, we don’t really do politics on this board so we can focus on the hockey. I’ll leave that up for now (along with whatever other stuff has crept in), but if we start to get off the rails I’ll take it down. Just letting you know.

We know that plus/minus is an imperfect stat, but McKinnon was the only minus player in the tournament for Canada.

You know my old saw … plus/minus is basically useless other than to compare within the same team. So yeah, MacKinnon hanging up a minus 2 while none of Canada’s other icetime leaders were negative is a bit of a tell. He was over-extending shifts and trying to do too much all tournament. If you want to widen it out, MacKinnon was also the only guy in the Top 15 point producers who ended up with a negative +/-.

Tampa had what? 10 guys who actually played in Milan? I haven’t heard anything about Hedman’s injury status, but the other guys who didn’t make the semis should be back by now. Guentzel, Cirelli and Hagel will be an issue for Wednesday, I’d think. Not sure about Thursday in Raleigh.
For Carolina, I’d expect everybody other than Slavin to be ready to go. Jarvis and Aho are both gonna be ticked off, even though they’ll both be road worn.

No worries. The other boards here have different views of that sort of thing, but we tend to try and keep it civil and not let political differences get in the way of what we enjoy doing together.
It’s my understanding that it is the plan for the whole US team. Men’s team, anyway. The Women politely declined their invite. The PWHL schedule resumes on Thursday and I think the college-based players are expected to rejoin their teams straight away since they have conference tournaments coming up.

I mean, does it matter that they were playing when they were playing completely different systems with completely different people? Rust isn’t just from inactivity. It’s also from not having done a thing, and Slavin hasn’t played man to man D in 3 weeks … just for one example
