isn't USA normally the better team at world championships, etc - but just not at the olympics?

Yeah was first time they won the one that counts in 20 years. They won the junior tournaments instead.

Weird factoid. Olympic hockey gives 3-2-1 points.

We played yanks 2x went 1-0-1against them for four points. The yanks got 2 points against us yet they get Gold.

I laugh at people saying the Canadian women won silver. Going into the Olympics, Canada was pretty much guaranteed silver.

Well, not looking good here. Thank God for all the other sports, because the hockey and curling (other than mixed doubles) have disappointed compared to expectations.
