WRAL changing to NBC

BTW one thing that really drives local TV news ratings is the weather guy/gal. When ratings tank it's often the weather person who gets axed first. Pretty amazing that Fishel has been at WRAL since 1981. The other stations change weather people every few years. I actually lived next door to the channel 11 weather woman, she lasted about 2 years.

And I noticed channel 11 now has a weather person who is a former Miss NC. She graduated Johns Hopkins and then got another degree in meterology.

Channel 11 has been pretty stable lately. When I first moved here in 1992, Chris Hohman was doing either mornings or weekends and had to wait through at least 3 other guys (and your neighbor) to get to Chief Meteorologist. Also when I moved here, Channel 17 didn't exist, the NBC affiliate was Channel 28 and they didn't have local news. I started watching Channel 11 because WRAL had Tom Suiter on sports and he reminded me too much of Warner Wolf, and that wasn't a good thing.

What is that- an AM21 over the air tuner? and how does that work? install?

And by antenna, are you talking about one of those digital ones? Any brand recommendations for either?

you can google it. The AM21 is a device made by DirecTV that plugs into the USB port on you receiver.
You then plug the antenna of your choice into the device.

On the direcTV side it integrates the local channels for your zip code into the menu.. so you can record, etc. .. All from the same menu.

Local TV stations make big bucks even now with so many cable channels. Which is why they can afford their own $5 mil doppler radars. And local news is a big money maker for them since they control all the ads for local shows.

Yup, and WRAL has absolutely dominated local ratings for news for pretty much as long as I've been alive. AKA, a really, really long time.
