Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

Nylander makes it 3-0 with 1 second to go in the 2nd with a tip on TJ Brennan's point shot.

This game is kind of weird though. For some reason, the team in blue and white is spending most of their time in the other team's zone. Is that how this game is supposed to work?

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

A win today would put the Marlies at 81 pts with 4 games left and 3 games in hand on Milwaukee who only have 2 games left. Only real challenger after Milwaukee is Hamilton, who sit at 78 points with 4 games left.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

Pretty good game for our top prospects. With a goal and an assist, Connor Brown's now at 20 goals and 60 points in 72 games. Brendan Leipsic continued his renewed offensive play with a goal and assist, and Nylander picked up three points with a goal and two assists.

Willy's creeping ever closer to that PPG mark with 11 goals and 27 points in 33 games now. It's probably unlikely he'll get there, since he'd need 10 points in the Marlies' last four games. But after a bit of a slow start, he's been every bit as good in the AHL as he was over in the SEL for quite some time now.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

Marlies have a game vs Iowa next week that should be easy, but it could be a trap game as their following game is against Milwaukee next Friday. If they can get 4 points from those two games I think that will be enough....Last two games are vs Chicago and Rockford.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

they got this.

they should always have been a playoff team, but injuries crushed them. now they're healthy...and the acquisitions of nylander, leipsic and brennan has really put them over the top, with brennan completely fixing their biggest weakness all year - the pp.

not only will they make the playoffs but they're good enough to legit take on any team.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

Marlies need 2 more points in 3 games to clinch a playoff spot. Last 3 games all away vs Milwaukee, Rockford, and Chicago. Only 3 losses with no points and Hamilton winning both remaining games will knock the Marlies out. Suppose Lake Erie could catch the Marlies but they have to win all 3 games.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

The Marlies have been pure clutch down the stretch when they needed pretty much every point to make the playoff, they've been able to get the job done ... and it's a collective effort too. Last night when Nylander and Brown were quiet, McKegg (2G) and Leivo (2A) came through for them. They've also used both Gibson and Bibeau down the stretch and it's a total team effort.

They're red hot right now, and I'm very much looking forward to the playoff even if they are seeded at 8th.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

Nice to see the Marlies be pretty much the anti-Leafs. They were looking pretty done earlier this season, but they clawed their way back in to the playoff race and have been reeling off a ton of victories when it mattered the most. I'll definitely be headed down to Ricoh to check out some playoff hockey if they get in.

The Marlies could still have some more reinforcements on the way too. Carter Verhaeghe & Frederik Gauthier are still playing in the CHL playoffs, but will likely join up with the Marlies when they're done, if the Marlies are still playing at the point.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

Leipsic has started scoring goals. His overall totals are solid but the lack of goal are a bit concerning. Nice to see him finally start putting the puck in the net late in the year.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

Damn. Nylander wheels into the zone past two defenders and dishes the puck over to Brendan Mikkelson for an empty-net tap-in. Marlies win it in OT to cap off their playoff berth. A goal and an assist for Nylander on the night.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

You have to give credit to Shanny's team for not bringing these guys up to the toxic environment. Previous management would have brought a couple of them up to 1- win a few games to shut up the critics 2- change the culture and not promote losing.

Now we'll have Marner, Strome, or McDavid and a great playoffs experience for the kids.
