Leafs' Prospect/Marlies Discussion Thread!

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

The Rockford PBP guy has such a horrible voice i had to turn the game off. Jesus.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

So Nylander with 14 pts in his last 10?

Like this kid a lot, he's had a great year.

**** Cherry.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

Yeah, had to love Don going on about the Leafs selecting the "undersized Swede" while he pimped the tires of that fatty Ritchie, who he only likes because he's from Orangeville.

Maybe if Nick laid off the Wendy's Baconators combos he'd be a more intriguing prospect. All while the Leafs have an eighteen year-old that's dominating the AHL as a teenager in his first year of North American hockey against seasoned adult professionals.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

Marlies end season on a 7 game win streak and will take on the Grand Rapids Griffins in round one. Series will start in Toronto and have a 2-3 schedule.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

Brennan also played at forward. McKegg and Leivo were rested and Finn-Valiev played together.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

Final AHL point tallies for our key Marlie forward prospects:

William Nylander: GP 37, G 14, A 18, Pts 32 (GP 82, G 31, A 40, Pts 71)
Connor Brown: GP 76, G 21, A 40, Pts 61 (GP 82, G 22, A 43, Pts 65)
Brendan Leipsic: GP 74, G 14, A 40, Pts 54 (GP 82, G 15, A 44, Pts 59)

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

Nylander also put up 30 points in his last 31 games (79 point pace) after starting of with 2 point in his first 6 AHL games. Ridiculous for an 18 year old in the AHL.

This after scoring a ppg in the SHL in the first half of the season, finishing 2nd in the WJC in scoring, a year after leading the U18 in scoring and putting up the best season a 17 year old ever has in Sweden's 2nd division.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

As great as Nylander's been, we have reasons to believe Strome / Marner will be even better is just unreal.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

Despite how bad the past two seasons have been in terms of the team just completely imploding in on itself in the most embarrassing fashion possible, there are still lots of reasons for future optimism with the Leafs.

They are slowly but surely starting to construct a foundation with the best prospect group that this organization has assembled in my lifetime. Nylander is a legitimate first-line talent, Brown and Leipsic both possess potential top six upside, and they have six quality defence prospects seeing regular minutes for the Marlies (Percy, Finn, Loov, Granberg, Nilsson, MacWilliam), several decent goaltending prospects, and the franchise upside player who they will select fourth overall. To say nothing of the team's second first rounder in an incredibly deep, quality draft.

It will be a long and at times certainly painful rebuilding process over the next three or four years, but there is a surprisingly respectable amount of talent to work with here.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

If that draft happened again today (which was a pretty good ****ing draft), it would be hard to not take Nylander #3 behind Ekblad, & Bennett.

Yeah, it's ****ing awesome that with how good Willy is, Mitch Stromafin is very likely to be better.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

Lots of people had Nylander ranking #1 heading into the year last season. Its amazing that teams were dumb enough to take guys like Virtanen and Fleury ahead of Nylander and Ehlers, and David Pastrnak goes 25th. You'd think teams would stop overlooking talented players because of size.

Re: Leafs' Prospect Discussion Thread!

Imagine if Burke was still at the helm.
