Leaf Rumours

watching him float around while doing nothing to help his new look team get off to an 0-6-1 start gives me some serious reservations about rick nash. looks like a locker room cancer, to me.

it sucks for him that wisniewski was suspended and then carter broke his foot... but the fact is that nash no longer has the excuse that the team isn't making moves to improve the team around him. it looks like he's just cashing in on the big contract they gave him and doesn't really give a shit.

he'll cost a ton, and he won't be worth it. i think kadri is going to be a more impactful player, even if he never gets the credit for it. and kadri is almost certainly the starting poitn of any deal for nash (should columbus decide to trade him).

I hope somebody like Winnipeg gets Yakupov. not the sens.
I hope Calgary gets him, so that three or four years from now, we'll be able to trade a bunch of our spare parts to get him.

Seriously though, as long as Ottawa (or Montreal) doesn't land Yakupov, I'm a happy camper.

Maybe the wrong thread for it, but what does the draft look like behind Yakupov? Any other potential franchise guys in the top-5?

...and msun, agreed about Nash. He's definitely looking like a guy who's just happy to cash a paycheque and put up pretty goal/point totals in a no-pressure environment.

Rick Nash is a very good player. And we could use a big guy who could score 40. Carter will come back eventually though and when he does they're going to have themselves a pretty decent scoring line there.

However I agree that despite playing for a loser franchise, Nash is not worth his salary on the basis of his current play and any hypothetical trade for him would entail some definite risk.

Also, let's not forget this guy isn't dying to come to the Maple Leafs, he's proven that already and I doubt he's changed his mind. Kessel wanted to come here and despite a ton of pressure is emerging into one of the league's elite players. Nash belongs in that group right now mostly because he's a "name".

The only way I'd like a Nash trade is if Columbus was blowing it all up and just wanted rid of the cap space. Basically a Phaneuf type move where 5 nickels gets us a quarter.

Not a chance I move Kadri for him.

yeah but thanks to playing in the ocean rather than a fishbowl like in toronto or calgary everybody thinks he's the second coming and his value would be as high if not higher than the likes of carter and richards.

he'd easily cost kadri, and probably quite a bit more because of the damage toronto/wilson/burke have done to kadri's reputation.

some poor team would give up far too much for him and unless he was the last piece to a puzzle and going to a team taht is already a legitimate top flight contender, whoever got him would almost certainly be disappointed.

I'd pass on Nash, as much as I would want him on the Leafs. Instead the Leafs should go after Weber at the trade deadline.

I think it's time we all gave up the notion of Kadri ever becoming a big time player for us.

Emphasis on the "for us."

They just don't want to give him the opportunity, it's obvious enough. He's going to get dealt this year, so I just want the return to be really good. I've given up expecting them to develop him properly here.

If we were getting Nash, even though I'd probably prefer not, I'm okay with Kadri going. He's a total wasted asset for us.

And Nash would poop his pants if he got to play for us.

Don't buy the party line these guys are obligated to throw out when a team commits 10 years and $100 million to them.

Columbus taking on Carter's terrible contract was a horrible mistake. They just put themselves in much debt.

Flyers will laugh at them for years to come.

Unfortunately I agree with you inre: Kadri. Either that or they're really working the 'tough love' angle, but he doesn't seem to be too popular. Real shame, cause the kid has crazy amounts of talent.

And I honestly don't know if there is a single player on Columbus I would want to trade for. Maybe Nash, but he's getting a star players salary and I'm not sure if his play is quite at the level to match his $$. Plus he'd probably cost more than I'd be willing to pay.

Not right now, no. I think we only have a few hundred thousand free actually.

Edit: $183,743 to be exact.

It's going to be interesting to see what happens with Weber this year. Whether or not he's just playing hardball in negotiations to get a better deal, or if he's tired of playing for a cap floor team in a non-hockey market and wants to move on. If he does become available, I'm sure Burke will be burning up the phone lines with Poile. Phaneuf/Weber would be a pretty good recreation of the Pronger/Niedermayer duo he rode to a Cup win in Anaheim.

Call me crazy but I'd rather go after a guy like Parise over a guy like Weber. Dont get me wrong Weber's one of the best blueliners in the league, but we already have too many, and too much money is already invested in the back end. Our biggest need is a first line winger (and no Lupul isnt that) to play with Kessel. I'd much rather Burke spend loads of money on a guy like Parise....
