Enjoyed Captain America due to Chris Evans' ability to project both strength and intellectual (or nerdy as it were) qualities with equal effectiveness, but Thor was an absolute mess.

I don't know. It felt too cluttered for my liking. A good movie, but not worthy of the praise that it has received thus far. Definitely not on a Batman Begins or The Dark Knight type level.

Meh, I don't go to superhero movies to see a cinematic masterpiece, I go for fun, mindless entertainment. That's what The Avengers was, extremely entertaining. If you have seen all of the other Marvel movies you have a pretty good grasp on most of the characters. I'd rather them not waste too much time on character development and rather just get to the mindless fun like they did.

Well that's exactly what prevents me from calling it a great movie. A great film introduces some sort of existential conflict that tests its characters' resolves or makes the audience have to think about the conclusion to a degree that requires a certain level of introspection or reflective thought. To me those elements are absent in The Avengers because, as you conceded, it's just a big popcorn film that's mindless fun. I had a good time but it doesn't deserve to be called a great movie either.

Saw Avengers and liked it.

Hearing the CANADIAN crowd clap in the end in a movie chocking with Americana was weird.

What's wrong with applauding after an excellent movie? It rarely happens but if it merits it I don't see the problem.

I don't get the hollywood Superhero movies. They bore me, unless they are dark like the original Batman. I will take plot and dialogue over special effects every time.

I don't plan on seeing Avengers and probably never will.

Maybe my man card should be taken away for saying this, I don't know.

Oh yeah, which is why I said it was awesome... by no means was it a great movie like the Nolan Batman movies.
