OT: The News Thread

The irony here is that it was "dat old guy from Shawiningan" who almost got it done. We were literally days away from it finally getting done, when some young Tory named Stephen won the election. It was the first thing he nixed, after forgiving the Americans the illegal duties they collected on our softwood for years.
...uhhh, "dat old guy from Shawiningan" hadn't been Prime Minister for 3 years by the time Stevie finally won an election.

I was at some event years and years ago, before the Reform merger with the PC's, and Harper was the guest speaker.

They introduced him as "The next Prime Minister of Canada" and I almost pissed my pants laughing to myself.

Then it actually happened...

keep it illegal. the government will kill all the good strains and put nasty additives in. let the private sector take care of it. after all, this generation has taken the thc levels making in the 24% areas, up from 2% in the 60s/70s.

As long as they treat it like tobacco, and allow whomever is so inclined to grow their own to do so, I'm fine with it. Out of a small backyard greenhouse (8 x 12), you could do 2 crops a year that would yield 20-30 pounds each. With the huge drop in prices that market forces would bring, you would have more than you'd ever want to smoke (personally, I'm down to maybe a gram a month), and you'd probably be able to sell anything of decent quality for a few hundred bucks a pound (when the cost for anything decent is 1500+ now, and up to 2500-2700 for premium hydro).

Would make a nice little cottage industry for anyone with a backyard and a means of getting rid of the stuff.

His point was that your recollection of how it went down was utterly wrong. Nice try to deflect, btw. You know full well you meant Chrétien, and not Martin.

hey Korea, while I was in Europe, I was watching Sky News and they interviewed Jesus of Nazareth and Mary Magdalene, they are now an Australian couple living in the outback.

We all know your reading comprehension is terrible, especially since you're a teacher. Allow me to help you out.
I was responding to a card-carrying member of the Tory party, who wishes that pot was legalized. So I mentioned the irony in being a member of the party that quickly quashed the legalization of pot, while wishing for it to be done.
The steps toward legalizing pot were started just after Chretien's final election win. We all know he retired from politics, and Martin got his wish to lead the party, (at least temporarily), but the fact remains that it was Chretien who almost got your pot legalized for you. Martin simply rode the popular measure to the election, hoping he could win with it.
Thankfully, the voters realized he was just another blowhard, and gave Harper a minority instead.

I think most of us can relate

James Bond is giving this Canadian a license to be thrilled as he orgasms every time he hears the 007 theme music.

The 45-year-old, who does not want to be named, experiences out-of-body sexual sensations whenever the British spy movie's brass instruments kick in on the opening scenes.

The Torontonian suffered a stroke in 2007 and developed the neurological condition of synesthesia — where he perceives senses as others.

I don't know how anyone could watch that and make excuses for the cop who fired the shots. Multiple officers with guns drawn and ready vs a kid with a small knife, up a small flight of stairs, impeded in his movement.

The pause between the first set of shots and second were chilling.
