Those guys weren't that picked that early -- for some reason every subsized dude we draft develops into something, regardless of when (or if) they were picked (Gallagher, DD, Grabovski, etc) while our hefty picks do nothing

So you criticize them for drafting Mac? and then for drafting small guys.

Not really, he's still trying to find his stride for a big man. Hedman looked slow and awkward the first couple of years in the NHL, now look at him. I remember seeing Hedman at the juniors in Ottawa, there were at least two or three dmen team on the Swedish team that looked more mobile than him.

That is also what I thought. But it is still weird he is back on BOTH theahl.com AND hamiltonbulldogs.com's websites. One could do the error, the other shouldn't follow. TheAHL.com isn't managing each team's websites independently as far as I know.

Anywaysm I guess we'll know in a couple days/weeks.

Exactly what I was going to say. Gionta IS small. Andrighetto is bigger.(5'7" 176lbs Vs. 5'9" 183lbs). But of course, we can't have 4 of the top 6 being under 6'0"... Desharnais, Gionta, Gallagher, Plekanec (though size isn't really an issue for this guy, he is the last "smallish" guy I would trade away...).
Gionta and Desharnais will probably be both gone when Andrighetto will have a spot with the Habs, if he ever does... and at that time, Galchenyuk should have the job for one of the 2 top centers.

I don't mind as much with late round picks, because if you can get an NHLer, regardless of his size or role on the team, you did a great job. The thing that bothers me is that all of the bigger forwards we've taken top out as bottom six forwards. Ironically, size on our bottom six is actually not bad with Moen, Prust, Eller, Weise, White, Bournival & Galchenyuk when he gets back. Not overwhelming by any stretch, but it'll work. Getting bottom six forwards isn't over difficult either, there are plenty available every summer which is also one of the reasons drafting McCarron so damned early was asinine.

Our big problem is the current top-6 and our future top-6. Outside of Tim Bozon, we have literally nothing except smaller sized players in the pipeline. Over the span of two drafts, Bergevin has drafted 6 skill forwards that are 5'11 or less and drafted 2 skill forwards that are 6'0 or bigger, one of which was taken third overall.

I mean, is there something I'm missing?

Have we passed on 6'+ skilled players? I'm assuming that teams snatch those pretty quickly.
