It didn't stop Nonis from giving away a lot of draft picks on veteran players now did it? (Bolland, Bernier, O'Byrne, Polak etc), he's definietly acapable of moving young players for vets, which is fine to an extent as long as it doesn't become a pattern and good thing we have Shanhan here to keep his GM in check.
 
Nonis hasn't moved any young players for anything. All the rumours have been that he was going to trade Kadri, or Gardiner, or the first. But they are all still here.

He did the same thing in Vancouver. Despite sucking he didn't move guys like Kesler, Sedins, Edler for quick fixes.

That is one thing we know for sure Nonis will never do.

I said he's capable of it, never said for certain he would... the only thing I do know is personally I don't feel it would be a wise move to trade for Backes but thats just me.

Bolland's been in this league for quite some time now and is pushing 30, Polak IMO is a vet and so is O'Byrne. The only one who isn't and I don't know why I lumped him in there is Bernier who is still realtively fresh in this league.
 
Damien Cox reported tonight that the Leafs & Kings almost had a deal of Lupul for Tyler Toffoli ++ last March, fell through and the Kings ultimately went with Gaborik.
 
The Kings dodged a huge bullet there, considering Gaborik & Toffoli combined for 21 goals in LA's playoff run.
 
Yeah, but they got suckered into a 7 year deal for 32 year old injury waiting to happen player. Of course, on that score ... he's not much different from Lupul (but they would have only been on the hook for 4 more seasons rather than 7).
 
Yeah, but ummm...they won the Cup, and as mentioned, Toffoli and Gaborik were huge parts of it. Gaborik is an impact player when healthy, I'm not sure Lupul is.
 
Lupul is an impact player when healthy. He's not a prolific scorer like Gaborik, but his impact on ice is evident.

Lupul has looked dang good with Naz the past couple games. Hope he keeps bringing it.

Of course, getting Toffoli + for him would have been a great deal.

Some corroboration from Steve Simmons on Dreger's Eric Staal rumour:

Eric Staal is apparently willing to waive his no-trade arrangement for a deal that would land him with the Maple Leafs.

This much we know: The Leafs have been kicking tires on Staal throughout most of the summer, according to TSN hockey insider Darren Dreger and at least one Leafs front office source. The Leafs have made numerous trade proposals before the season began. But in recent days there has been absolutely no talks between the two teams.

When asked how serious to take the talk of Staal, a source close to the Leafs front office said: “Right now, not very.”

The Leafs have not had any trade discussions of any kind with Carolina since the season began.

Yes from Eklund, but this seems to maybe finally making sense.

On the Leafs and Avalanche...

Jake Gardiner is again part of this rumor....and these teams have had several discussions over the past year ...Ryan O'Reilly remains the Leafs main target...and for the first time in over a year it looks like it could be possible.

I could see something to this as they have been struggling out of the gate, and they have Mackinnon and Duchene and their defense is what is killing them.

...and rightfully so. If Hoss just made up a rumour himself and posted it here, that'd have more credibility.
