Leafs/Habs/Sens 2014-15

The Sens PDO was 100.4 before Feb 10th. That is sustainable, and does not suggest they were "unlucky". An Unlucky PDO is under 100.

No one is arguing that the Sens aren't a garbage bubble team. You are just pleased by that for some odd reason.

By the way, Pronger is officially on the ignore. First time ever.

Between his inability to use numbers and his absurd political positions, I couldn't handle it anymore.

I won't pretend to understand how he made the cut before sheep, but to each their own.

With respect to the Senators late season run, based on the statistics that have been brought forward in this thread, I've come to the following conclusions:
1. The PDO is very high. That is almost certainly unsustainable (as Leafs fans are all too familiar with)
2. Obviously, the Hamburglar has played a huge role in this. I think its clear that there have been improvements in other areas under Cameron, but no Hamburglar, we're not having the discussion about the Sens possibly making the playoffs.
3. I don't really see anything that would indicate this type of performance is sustainable over the long run. Possession wise the Sens have been average at best. PDO usually catches up to a team too.

I think it's likely safe to say that a) they've improved under Cameron; and b) the youngsters are progressing, which both likely have an impact. However, I'm not in a position to accurately evaluate the biggest contributing factor(s) to the success, and none of the stats put forward really give much help on that front. Yes, they're scoring more, but the PDO suggests that's largely luck based.

Next season will be telling.

14th in CF% during that stretch. I keep looking for team improvements, but "luck" isn't a team improvement.

Like I've said, enjoy it while it lasts man.

So their Corsi over that stretch was like a 100 point playoff team...thanks for pointing that out.

No one is suggesting the Sens are a 134 point pace team.

Every bit of evidence presented by either side points to a good team playing great based on excellent goaltending and improved offensive play.

File it under luck if it helps you sleep at night, but the Sens are good young team that looks like they'll continue to improve in the future. If/when Hammond slows down, the Sens still have a good starter in Anderson to take over.

The only people here who are being delusional are the ones calling them a garbage team that is winning based on a hot goalie and luck.

It's never tough to have wish ill on the Sens. Unless they ended up playing Montreal in the first round this year, I guess. The Habs going out in the first round with a whimper against the Sens would be comedy gold. Both on the ice, and around here.

even though we wouldn't

How many playoff spots are there again?

Playing like a playoff team. Thanks for once again making my argument for me.

Ottawa *did* draft Marian Hossa 12th overall, Martin Havlat 26th overall (in a horrific draft that was something), and Erik Karlsson 15th overall, so it's not like ending up with the 14th overall selection would be a death sentence for their scouting staff.

Especially in a year that is universally regarded as being the deepest draft since 2003.

Fantastic post.

The Sens drafting and player development has been top notch.

Yes.

Certainly better than missing the playoffs every real season for over a decade...

Meh, the Leafs suck. That's all you've got?

If you're cool with 14th out of 30, your expectations suck.

Enjoy this little streak, we'll have to chat again when it's over.

I'm sure we will as your 55,000 posts suggest you are under the mistaken impression that the whole world desperately needs to hear your opinion on every subject.

So playing like the 14th best team in hockey is a good thing?
With the current payroll, and status of the young players? Absolutely.

This team is a few steps into a directional change. Out with the Spezza, Alfies, Phillips, Neils, ect. In with the Stones, Hoffmans, Zibanejads, ect.

Fair enough.

This is true. Just don't be shocked if the directional change isn't quite where this run has made it appear to be.
