2016 Playoff Thread

See i watch EPL/Bundesliga etc but i don't really have a particular team I follow.

Right now I want West Ham to do well because of Henry but next year I will also be supporting Burnley because of Arfield. I follow players I have a connection to in foreign leagues but domestically its all Toronto.

And these purists, those who only support one team, are hard core fans even when they ditch the team when doing poorly.

Both Habs fans and leafs fans here and elsewhere barely watched their team this year. Game day threads of two pages, sometimes one. People openly saying they have watched more baseball and basketball than hockey as if it's something to be proud of.

These are the purists, the hard core fans of hockey? Yet these fans, who drift away from the sport, ironic, to other sports entirely, are the fans to be lauded for being loyal to their team?

I don't watch baseball, I don't watch basketball and I don't watch the NFL but for some reason I am a casual hockey fan because I follow another hockey team? What about all the other "second" teams out there that people go watch when the Habs and leafs are shitty teams?

Get off your high horses people.
 
I watched pretty much every leafs game this year, especially after the trade deadline.

Get off your high horse of real hockey fans... you are a hockey fan but you are a casual supporter of your teams.

Yes, you probably did. It's kind of your job though.

But you know who I speak of, some of them here, some of them over at the Habs forum. They get no grief for ditching the Habs or leafs for other sports. I only like hockey. I hate baseball basketball and nfl football. So when I do like a lot of other and watch a different team I don't exactly have another sport to go to.

OK, you watched every game. Cool, good on you. What about those you know who have been tuning out since December or January?Those who have been watching every raptors game but only 3 or 4 leafs games since the new year?

These are the hardcore leafs fans? Because for some reason I don't think they get the casual fan label slapped on them.
 
Well in fairness if you are so devestated by the Leafs stinking that you can't even watch hockey that makes you a die hard Leafs fan, not a casual one.

However, if your response is "oh well, I guess I'll just like Nashville now"...

Whether it took 10 years or a single year to get to this point is not relevant. The point is a lot of people on forumice,the hf boards, everywhere deserve the casual fan label at this point.

A decade...it took a decade before Leaf fans got this way.

You need to take this shit over to the Habs board where a few bad months caused a mass exodus of give a ****.

Hey man, Habs fans are very fickle. If the habs go through what the Leafs have gone through it might fold. You will not get any argument from me.

If been following the preds since 2007. I've been on their ups and downs. I watched Suter play Poile for a fool like vesey did. I watched the andrei Kostitsyn Alexander radulov playoff drama.i was there for the radulov drama part 2. I was there when Nashville turned into a lottery team after Suter left. I didn't randomly pick nashville as a team to make my cup dreams come true. (I would have picked a much better team to make that happen). I go through the motions the missed playoffs, the player bullshit with Nashville just as I do the Habs, I don't just see the Habs shit the bed and randomly pick nashville. I was already following them.

My definition of a hardcore fan is one that follows the team, all the time, good or bad, not one that is there for the good, watching basketball for the bad. Am I a hardcore fan? No. But a lot of people shitting on those who have second teams are not either.

It's kind of funny to criticize the die-hard Leaf fans for not living and dying with the NHL team's successes and failures this year.

I mean, anyone except the most casual of Leaf fans was well-aware of the fact that, with the exception of four or five players, this year's Leaf team was a collection of irrelevant place-holders that were here for the sole purpose of netting us draft picks, allowing us to dump salaries and giving the real Maple Leafs (the ones playing at Ricoh, in Europe or in the CHL) extra time to develop.

And even with that being said, I still watched the majority of their games this year, and got to see plenty of Dion, Lupul, Bozak, Parenteau, Grabner, Matthias et al. I just didn't bother to make it a point to plan my evenings around whether or not there was a Leaf game on until the trade deadline passed and a lot of those place-holders were shipped out and replaced with the guys we're actually going to be watching in Leaf jersey for the next bunch of years.

Yes. If my club was a consistent 100 point club, and went into this year expecting to be a 100 point club and as soon as shit got tough, they bailed completely and watched next to nothing in the 2nd half of the season. That's absolutely a casual fan.

If my club has been floating somewhere between bad and tragic for 10 years, and 9.5 years in, people who have otherwise stuck through 9.5 years of bullshit started to pay less attention until they see some light at the end of the tunnel....I have a hard time calling that casual. Because it's not casual.

I think I've criticized both fanbases equally.

And you've missed my point. Sure , you yourself watched most of the games. Cool. Die hard fan.

But I know you know those who have ignored the Leafs this year, fully watching other sports. They aren't hardcore like you are. Yet never a peep about them. Guy watches the Blackhawks instead of the raptors and suddenly the Blackhawks guy is a casual and the raptors guy in a hardcore in hiding?

I don't buy it.
