OT: American Politics

This kind of strikes me as a paradox.

One the one hand, you should always keep your guns unloaded and safely secured when they're in your house. That's just basic responsible gun ownership, right? But at the same time, isn't "defending the home" the whole excuse for having a gun in your house in the first place?

And if someone's smashing through your windows, kicking down your door or creeping up the stairs when you're asleep at night, are you necessarily going to be able to get to your secure gun safe, enter the combination and load your gun quickly enough that you can even use it to defend yourself at all?

Or keep those pesky Pokémon -Go players at bay.

I'm not sure why anyone needs a gun like that, regardless of what classification you want to give it. I just don't get the point. Probably never will.

Anyways... looks like another police shooting in Baton Rouge. Three officers dead, three injured.

That's fine.

Your country will continue to see these senseless massacres (which seem to happen almost weekly now), but let's spend our energy talking about AR classification as a way of justifying gun ownership and the precious second amendment. Terrible to say, but a lot of Americans deserve what is happening to them at this point. While the rest of the world watches in disbelief at the utter stupidity of the whole thing.
The real discussion has yet to be had. Derisive comments like yours prevent it.

+1

I can legally get my hands on gear with way more kick than a AR in Canada. 5 round clip though, with some major ****ing punishments available if I was to get caught with a "modified" cartridge.
Someone that gets it. It isn't unconstitutional to limit magazine sizes. Progressives shoot for the moon instead of a more reasonable target.

Need and want. Nobody needs a Sportscar, they want them. Since you don't want a gun you'll never understand, and that's OK.

Regarding another cop shooting, bad news. Eventually radicals will go too far and there are plenty of crackers looking for an excuse to start shooting.

I actually love guns, though. I think I'd probably love to target shoot, etc..but I'm not sure that's safe for the rest of you. lol

Rest of the world who? Turkey? France? Belgium? Arab states that grossly hinder human rights? African shit holes that do the same? Or do you mean Canada?

If you come to Florida I'll take you to the range. You'll see proper handling of weaponry and that they are fun to shoot, especially when you get proficient.

I don't think this is really a fair point, virtually no one is arguing about guns used for hunting or home protection (and you know what the numbers show about how effective they actually are for home protection, but that's another argument entirely). I think most sane 'progressives' have the same opinion as most other sane people, the # of guns in the US is completely out of control, background checks are a damn good idea, and you don't need an AK-47 to shoot a deer or protect your home. Whether you want to ban assault (or assault-style) weapons or just the magazine sizes is kind of irrelevant, you don't need that type of gun regardless of the magazine size (use on ranges should be fine of course). But if some actual progress can be made focusing on magazine sizes instead, that would absolutely be better than not doing anything at all about this problem. The issue is that the NRA and a bunch of nutters refuse to concede even one inch in this discussion. You seem willing to do so and that's cool, I do understand the mentality that if you give them an inch now, they'll go for a mile later, but at some point common sense has to prevail, no?

Now once the alien invasion begins, that's another story.

Therein lies one of the main issues, progressives saying what someone needs and what they don't. Progressives know what's good for you. It's okay if the far left is violent because it's "justified". The far left better pray that the far right never feels "justified" in violence.

Out of curiosity, isn't it amazing that most shootings you see aren't done by so called RW nut jobs? Interesting no?

On another point, why aren't you as passionate about Kate's Law?

BTW, AK- 47s have been outlawed for 30 years. If you have one then you have it illegally. Banned by a Republican president *gasp*. Continue your uneducated narrative though.

Yeah, I'd definitely be anti-gun, but I've been to a couple ranges and they're definitely fun. But I basically look at it like it's a kind of souped-up form of Archery - why you would ever want to walk down the street carrying a gun, I have no idea. The thought of accidental usage is still way too high for me, even with proper care.

Wasn't trying to be combative with you, I'm just asking a question. What possible reason would you possibly need an AK-47 for? Give me one single actual non-bullshit reason. You can't, because there aren't any. I mean I guess if you're a member of the A-Team and you are trying to evade the authorities while traveling around the countryside helping people and you need to enter a Colombian drug lord's compound with 200 armed guards inside, then sure, I guess you need one.

And I know AK-47's are not legal, I used the term to make a point. For all intents and purposes these guns are the same ****ing thing, whether it's an assault rifle or an "assault-style" rifle or an AR-15 or a Sig Sauer. Sure they're not "exactly" the same, just like a Volkswagen Beetle isn't a Honda Accord, but they're both cars that are extremely similar and serve the same purpose. C'mon man, you're arguing semantics here.

Believe it or not, I would very much enjoy getting out on a range and shooting one. But there is absolutely no reason (I.M.O.) for Joe Idiot down the street to own one.
