Around the League 2018-2019 Edition

Another funny note about the Mikko Koskinen contract:

Not only does it give him "lockout protection money" in the form of a signing bonus in year #2, but Chiarelli also gave him a 15-team no-trade-clause.
Wow. Those NTCs kill me. If you give them out to anyone but top tier players, sooner or later everyone will ask for them and you'll have a team you and your successor are stuck with for years.

These guys are making Fletcher/Burke/Nonis monster look smart.

Chia really has built a Ferguson styled organization there, where nobody of any value is there to 1) threaten his position & 2) provide valuable insight that might be contrary to Chia's opinion.

The front office is:

Nicholson - something something Hockey Canada. Maybe the easiest executive job in sports. At the least, a knife fight with head of USA basketball.
Chiarelli - President of Hockey Ops/GM. His track record in tossing away high end skilled players speaks for itself at this point
MacT - SVP Hockey Ops. 6 years in senior management in Edmonton means he's clearly part of the problem
Duane Sutter - VP player personnel. 9 years in Edmonton's senior management group. 9. 9. 9, ****ing 9. To say that he's had a front row seat to this would be an understatement.
The other Gretzky - AGM. 3rd year as AGM. Was with the Bruins with Chia for 5 years previously to that.
Bill Scott - Cap guru. Just presided over the Strome/Spooner debacle. Strome could have been bought out as an under 26 yr old player, meaning a much lower buyout. Spooner is over 26 though, so the full buyout numbers would apply if/when they buy him out (he isn't getting claimed on waivers..). Was AGM previously to this job, which appears to be a demotion.
Scott Howson - VP Player Development. Former Blue Jackets GM. Was the architect of the Jeff Carter mess (Voracek and the pick that became Couturier for Carter, Carter was then traded to LAK for Jack Johnson and a conditional 1st).
Bob Green - Director of Player Personnel. Runs the Oilers amateur draft and has for 6 years now.

The entire organization needs to be purged. There is absolutely nobody who has anything on their resume from their time in Edmonton that isn't worth being on the firing line. Everything is a tire fire and they've all been in their positions for long enough to fix it, even if they weren't the reason it is a tire fire.

I mean ultimately I think this lands on Katz. Not that he should be meddling, but I assume Nicholson reports to him. And the cancer clearly is everywhere in that organization, including the top.

It is my belief a change is imminent at the GM position in Edmonton. It’s no longer a matter of it, but when Peter Chiarelli’s is let go. I’d expect news shortly.

@MSavvy91

A source really close to the @EdmontonOilers hockey club tells me that Peter Chiarelli’s job in Edmonton has come to an end!!

Scarier thing of all of this is the rumours are true wtf made the decision to sign Koskinen?

That’s a poor sign for the future

Its rotten to the core there. It's become a country club for the old boys.
