They should have. They also showed their hand in what they want in the draft. I’d wager they were hoping to target Devin White from LSU. Since Shazier went down we’ve had no anweryat Ilb really. He’s a hard piece to replace. I hate to wring my hands about this as we have a JuJu on board who can easily slide into the #1 spot. Reminds me of when we traded Santonio Holmes for a 5th and the internet exploded on how Colbert embarrassed the team by taking this. Pretty sure that pick allowed them to take Brown in the 6th next draft.

Funny. He got 21+ insogning bonus a year or so ago and was the highest paid WR in the league until OBJ signed last year. Guess it hurt his fee fee

I think I read over a 4 year dominant stretch AB made only about 28 mil in real dollars with all the restructuring of his contract .

Along the way the best WR in the game was overtaken financially by second and third tier receivers from what I read .
 
@101, Jets picked up a OG Kelechi Osemele.....former All Pro (16'), and two time Pro Bowler (16 & 17).

Traded them our 5th...and got back Osemele & a Bears 6th rounded.....move of 56 slots.

He had a real down year in 18, but PFF pegs him as one of 10 players most likely to have a big bounceback season. Has two years remaining on his deal at just over $10 & $11m. Zero guaranteed.

....I was hoping for Rodger Saffold, but this is equal upside at a lesser cost/lower risk.


Macc still blows ...but this was a real nice low-key gamble.

Yeah, that's a no brainier given their cap space and all the needs on offence. Probable pro-bowl LG guard for nothing. Still lots of work to do this offseason, but they couldn't go another year without making major splashes to help Darnold.
 
Jets are believed to have given LB Anthony Barr a contract in the ballpark of $14-15 million per season. I liked Barr as a Viking but their system wasn't utilizing him as an edge rusher. He wanted to be paid as one. He finally gets his wish.
 
I really loved the Jamison Crowder signing....gives Gase' that Landry/Stills/Wilson style WR he always makes great use of. Could see Crowder making a real nice evolution in to another tier.

Barr is a fascinating signing cause he's a damn quality LB (four time Pro Bowler) but known mainly for his coverage skills in Minny.....Jets obviously signing him as their 2nd option after missing out on Flowers and hoping to evolve him a bit and make more use of the pass rushing skills he flashed in college (23.5 sacks over final two years).

Still waiting on final numbers of the contract...but it strikes me as a somewhat risky, but intriguing gamble......you're either overpaying for a coverage/run stuffing backer, or you snagged a real versatile rushed for lower end (for edge) money.

Very much a Gregg Williams type guy tho....he'll love the flexibility he brings.


Now bring me home Bell & Paradis.
 
Apparently Barr ranks as one of the most efficient pass rushers in the league according to PFF.

And now they just landed Mosley too. Thats a massive upgrade to the D.

Still rumored to be in on Paradis and Bell.

PFF pass rushing numbers are a little missleading tho, as those are totals from blitzes packages where he's blitzing up the middle, or is disguised pre-snap and comes in unguarded, etc......not from a classic pass rushing position.

It's still good he has success when he does rush, just not sure how much it tells us. His college numbers are what stand out for me, given he was a true 3-4 OLB rushing off the edge...but when you watch tape, he was pretty clearly a speed rusher first and foremost. Didn't have a ton of moves/great technique.

Will be interesting to see how he's used, and how Williams is able to deploy him to maximize his talents. If he can develop a small handful of pass rush moves, it could pay off big.

Mosley signing is huge....he's a stud, but maaan did we overpay by a bonkers amount.

If Macc can close out on Paradis, I'll be thrilled.....if we can add Bell on top of all that too? It'll be gravy.


Love the freedom we have to go BPA/trade down at the draft....add a Bosa/Q/Allen to this group, and Gregg Williams is gonna have a lot of fun this year.

Need to address cornerback tho...
 
Only four defensive players 27 or under in the NFL have made 4+ probowls. Kuechly, Donald, Barr & Mosley.

I dig how relatively young all Maccs signings have been too...Crowder (25), Mosley (26), Barr (about to turn 27).

Should be plenty of quality football left in their tank.
 
Yeah, they are spending a ton of money but they have it to spend and its at least on legit pro-bowl calibre players.

This was Mac's plan all along. Clear cap space, focus on the draft, find the QB, then use all that cap space to surround him with talent. His execution has been hit and miss, but he has hit it out of the park so far this offseason.

Getting Paradis would be huge though. The line still needs work.

And yeah, all these guys are still young.
 
Of course. Mosely eases the loss on that one, but they do need to figure out a way to get to the QB. Murray going #1 would solve that problem though.
 
Barr is a physical specimen & I was really looking forward to seeing how that experiment would have worked out....but there's no denying paying a guy who hasn't been a pass rusher in the NFL, to be one...is an massive gamble. I had faith Gregg would find ways to make the most of him, but of all the signings, I'm least worried about him bailing.

If Mac can use that cash to land a proper edge rusher (Ansah, Barrett, Houston, or trade for Ford)....or spend it one CB, it's a wash.

Still sucks anytime a player bails on an agreement tho....
 
What a plot twist. FWIW, as a Vikings fan, I was a bit more interested in retaining Richardson than Barr. I long suspected the Vikings weren't that keen on Barr, since they didn't extend him last year. The Vikings MO has been to lock up their homegrown talent a yr before their rookie contract expires. (ie Hunter, Griffen, Rhodes, Kendricks, Harrison Smith).

IMO, the change of heart cuts both ways. Vikings upped their offer at the last minute. The mitigating factor might be that this draft is deeper in DL than LB.
