Golf Thread

I don't think there's a double standard.

The same people who don't care about Tiger cheating on his wife wouldn't/don't care about Louis CK having a jerk off fetish. Tiger was just a bigger deal in the first place so he's still massively popular.

Hey, I've defended Louis myself. It's just not the same thing. His biggest mistake was timing. Right at the peak of the metoo stuff.

Eh, people tend to love excellence and he's probably the greatest golfer of all time. That he's not your typical golfer from a background or ethnicity standpoint makes it even better. People love Gretzky, love Jordan despite the fact he's worse than Hitler, etc.

Although there's another major major golfer out there with a secret family that his wife does not know about. There's a lot of hush money involved, let me tell you. Don't ask how I know. Just accept that it's a very large cheating culture. Worshipping these people but shitting on Louis CK and Aziz for being awkward with women is a weird double standard that I don't quite get.

I think you're blowing the Louis and Aziz things out of proportion. There was some initial metoo shit that cost Louis a bag load of money, but I haven't heard either spoken poorly of in ages. All of the old comedy club guys have welcomed Louis back with open arms for example.

Asked co workers to watch him jerk off. They may or may not have been super into it and may or may not have felt like Louis had major influence over the direction of their careers.

Louis recently tried coming back. Someone recorded a set of his in some small club trying out new material and there was a huge scandal over a particular joke being too offensive. It wasn't offensive at all btw. And he was trying out material as most comedians do in a small club. But that gained traction and now he's basically despised because of the joke and because of his jerking off thing.

The tiger stuff wa always a huge joke. People laughed at it. I understand it's probably because it wasn't 2019 and this is something we only care about in 2019.. but still. All the shit brought up from a decade ago that people are suddenly fake angry about, and tiger gets off free. It's fascinating.

Have to wonder if they'd laugh if/when the all American family man of golf gets his shit publicized. I keep waiting for it to come out because the broad is a bit of a loudmouth but so far nothing other than a couple rumors from like five years ago.

Yeah, I don't really know or care about the specific's of Louis CK's case, so I can't speak to the comparison.

As for Woods, it's probably fair to say he's a bad husband. It's probably fair to call him a dummy, too---if he wanted to have some fun with his status as the world's #1 golfer, he could have just avoided marriage altogether, or he could have gotten married to someone with whom he was up front about their marriage being non-monogamous.

All of that is really nobody's business but his and the ex-wife, though, in the absence of any crime being committed. And it's no reason for him to be some social pariah.

2 things. 1) the joke sucked, it was unfunny and stupid. That was it's worst crime. You can get away with insensitive (which the joke was, it was about the school shooting survivors in Florida), but you can't be insensitive and unfunny. 2) Despite that, the comedy community has welcomed him back with open arms. Rogan had a couple of the old school comedy club owner/promoters on his podcast a couple of weeks ago and they were clear that he's not blackballed, and has been welcomed back into every comedy club of note in the country.

Things are not so binary. Many think Tiger is severely flawed but can’t resist a good comeback story. And this is a whopper.
 
If tiger were accused of assault or harassment it would be something else entirely.

As it is, everybody knows she's a hot gold digger who knew what she was signing up for.

Nobody would be angry at louis ck if he had cheated on his wife.

The joke wasn't the best. Of course not. But you know the 2019 social media warriors were ecstatic to jump all over him regardless. It's not going to be easy to get even half the career that he once had. Comedy in general is in tough shape because of this. I haven't found a movie legitimately funny since superbad.

But yeah, I understand it's a different time and I'd be fine with it if it was more genuine or actually tackling the issues instead of villainizing everyone that looks at a woman. Dave Chappelle had the best take on the whole metoo thing. It has become a violently angry/malicious cult more than anything. Which is a shame really.

As for the golfer situation? Yes it's personal family shit but it's real bad. The fact that I know about it and I have a very loose connection to the situation makes me stunned that I've sat on this info for like ten years without it going public. She is one yappity broad so I'm really shocked.

Yep, Chappelle was right. But thankfully the metoo movement appeared to jump it's own shark and while the awareness of sexual abuse/assault is now heightened, the hysteria appears to have gone away.
