The Mother****ing Off Season Thread

Don't really see anyone else. And not even sure about Heed. He may well be crazy overpaid because of the crazy rhd market... And honestly he's not all that appealling.

Who off the bargain bin/scrap heap is of interest? I figure that's about the only place we'll be able to fill our depth.

Not going to analyze the list (and their inclusion in the list is not an endorsement of any type), but here's a bunch of names that could/should be "cheap"

Forward:
Pominville, Moulson, Lehtera, McGinn, Krueger, Vanek, Panik, Filppula, Boyle, Donskoi, Linberg, B Tanev, DSP, MPS

Defence:
Girardi, MDZ, Hainsey, Gunnarsson, McQuaid, Lovejoy, Engelland, Chiarot, Sustr, Heed

Dave poulin: leafs had all sorts of comparables with nylander and failed. They couldn't get him signed for any of them and had to overpay him. Marners comparison is Matthews. He shouldn't get less than 11.

They then went on to blame dubas for this group of rfas wanting to get paid. Led by Bryan Hayes.

Thats quite the load of horseshit

Friedman and CJ have great discussions on the topic. Those two dummies not so much

The media in the city is a bunch of turds. That's putting it lightly.

And mindz, that list is slim pickings. Hopefully Dubas can identify some less heralded players to fill some of the roster.

Im really curious to see what happens with Zaitsev. Would really like to get a legit dman to pair with Rielly. Give our best guy some long term stability. I have some hope that Liljegren comes into camp and earns a spot.

This Marner situation is really pissing me off.

What exactly does everyone think the sticking point is? Dollar or term?

The Matthews situation was so painless.

If Marner does indeed visit with other teams, i'm going to lose some respect for the guy. I don't care what his "rights" are.

Someone also needs to explain to me why the leafs get dick all for discounts. The marketing dollars in Toronto is legendary. Yet the team has to pay market value or above for everyone? We can't catch a break.

Yet other teams catch HUGE tax breaks on top of being benefits of revenue sharing. Gary Bettman's NHL.

Chris Johnston says on SN650 that Marner is the only RFA visiting other teams for an offersheet that he's received confirmation on at the moment, but that doesn't mean that Marner will be the only one.

Yep, it's why I want a luxury tax. It's already an uneven playing field. I'm waiting for Marner to sign for 10/50 and Point to sign for 8/70

Marner camp will get a rude awakening in this RFA period. Zero chance teams draw a Matthews comparable, he only gets that benefit here in Toronto. Still say they fall around $10.3 million

Good on him for chasing big money. I don't blame him but the golden boy is about to see the ugly side of the fanbase.

It is pretty unusual for marquee rfas to be meeting with other teams no? I can't recall hearing much about it before

That’s because it’s relatively new. In the past free agents, whether restricted or not, weren’t able to talk with teams the week before July 1.

Nobody will give him an offer that costs 4 firsts. If they do then Dubas likely takes the 4 firsts.

They will offer him just below if anything and that’ll cost 2 firsts, a second and a third. The problem there is Dubas will likely match that offer.

For all intents and purposes this is a futile endeavor for the Marner camp.

Nah, he'll get wined and dined, teams will tell him what an excellent player he is and how they plan to win with his crippling contract demands.

Friedman says other teams are telling that if some team does offersheet Marner and TOR doesn't match, they're terrified of what TOR might do with extra cap space, picks, and a vengeance.

I think there's a weird quirk in the CBA re: offersheets where TOR *can* sign another team's RFA to a max offersheet even though they don't have next year's 1st round pick. Instead they would give up 1st round picks from 2021-2024.

They could essentially keep the 1sts from the lower teams offersheet and use their own later ones to set up a massive bonus heavy offersheet to someone elses RFA
