OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Sounds amazing dude. I’ve always loved my Mexico trips. I thought about buying a vacation home in San Jose del Cabo, it’s a bit more laid back than Cabo San Lucas. Really liked that area.

Pretty sure the wife and I are going to do something similar except probably try out living somewhere in SE Asia. Just gotta do a bit more sampling of different areas there to make a decision on where.

Yeah, both Mexico and SE Asia have some big benefits compared to living in Canada. Most of my time in Mexico has been in Playa del Carmen in the tourist zone and even the "expensive" items there are still dirt cheap. And my time in Thailand and Vietnam last year were both a lot of fun too, again, even being mostly in foreigner zones.

Still not sure those are places I would want to go live in full-time, although it would be nice to be able to go a little more local.

But man, I just want the world to get back to being able to travel a place. One thing that does scare me a little with this is increased government surveillance, especially in places like Thailand and Vietnam, who will definitely use the current crisis to add some tracking apps onto your phone. Or the fact that a place like Mexico I'm almost positive is not taking the situation seriously in the least bit, so even if the hospital stay costs the same as a Starbucks, still not really the place I want to be.

So in the not to worry category...

My daughters place of work reopened last week...

Three people in the kitchen have now tested positive for COVID. They were negative when tested prior to reopening.

She’s on her way to get tested. She doesn’t work in the kitchen however the proximity is too close.

Good times.

I'm curious how Florida would actually handle that. This seems like the deal they were happy to make. People's health for perceived "freedom" and the economy.

I keep trying to figure out my downsides and I'm not seeing many. Health insurance is cheap and depending on where you are in the country, the care is on par with Canada (Vallarta has 4-5 modern hospitals that match anything but the top hospitals in Canada), even in an expensive city by Mexican standards, the rent on a new 3-4 bedroom house with a pool is 1000-1200 usd a month (on a 1 yr lease, not a vacay rental). I pay 2600 for a townhouse half the size with no backyard, no pool in vaughan. Utilities are half the cost, food is half the cost. There's 2-3 weeks in October that are basically unliveable with the humidity but other than that the weather is generally perfect.

The only downside I'm seeing is the potential for increased violence, but that's a bubble in mexico that is extremely safe comparatively. Even nearby cities like Tepic and Guadalajara are no more violent than major American cities like Chicago, Detroit, Baltimore, New Orleans, Memphis, etc. I'll adjust my travel patterns in a way that is weird to Canadians (no highway travel after dark) but it's a small cost in my eyes.

The governor is a Trump acolyte and an ass. "Florida" doesn't care at the moment.

Sad thing is, the guy he beat in the last election would've been worse. A sad state of affairs when the only two people you could've voted for (who stood a chance of winning) were awful.

Why would Gillum have been worse? Somehow I doubt he would've fired those who refused to falsify COVID data or forced people to risk their lives to work or be fired.
