Around the League 2019-2025 Edition

Now, I doubt that a superstar would voluntarily sit out a season to help his team out of cap troubles, or that Tampa would choose to play this year without one of the best players in the world.

But how conveniently tidy for Tampa if Kucherov goes on LTIR long enough to solve their cap problems, but comes back in time for the playoffs, when the cap’s no longer an issue.

Still would only leave them $7.5m to sign cirelli and cernak, keep a bare 20 man roster.....and not be able to activate kucherov.

It's convenient for sure but we should wait to see what the injury may be before assuming that no?

Oh, I’m not assuming anything. Just doing the usual Leaf fan thing and imagining the worst case scenario from our perspective.

Yeah #1 is my choice too. Need to renew that rivalry. Hopefully the Habs tweaks make it more interesting.

My order would be
Toronto
Edmonton
Vancouver
Winnipeg
Ottawa
Calgary
I expect at least 2 surprises and not ruling anyone out

56 games , you start off terrible after 15 games your done with no time to catch up

6 good teams and Ottawa is improved and if Murray plays out of his mind anything can happen

I don't see anyone as clear cut #1

Open your eyes then, it'll be obvious.

You do realize anything can happen in a sprint season with no exhibition games right?

That said, it should benefit rosters without heavy turnover more. Ottawa and Montreal will have many new faces.

Waiting for the excuses should the Leafs not finish first.

I mean there won't be any (or any good ones). We're into put up or shut up time in my mind

If they don’t win the division there is still the consideration that this isn’t a normal season with normal prep. A good start will be even more important this season.

Injuries, covid and goaltending/Dubas would be the likely excuses if we don’t finish first.

With little preseason, it should give a leg up to teams that don’t need systems to win and use skill - no excuse to not start off hot and run away with division. We should be the team to beat, even with Andersen being our goaltender

you can always find excuses if you look hard enough

Yep. But even if this hurts Hab fans’ feelings, there’s no acceptable excuse for this Leaf team failing to win a “Canadian division” by a comfortable margin.

That isn’t a prediction that they’ll actually do it, but on paper there’s a wide talent disparity between the Leafs and the teams that should be fighting for second.

And this core group has had enough “learning experiences” & “moral victories”. It’s shit or get off the pot time now.

It’s also not exactly fair that the North is the only division that has to travel three time zones. I hate late starts.

On the upside, the Canucks might not be able to play in BC, and may be forced to temporarily relocate to a province with a more respectable time zone.
