The Grichuk trade was fine, a decent RP and a prospect for a 4th OF with some upside. Leone and Greene had good arms, I can see why STL did it. Hasn’t worked out for either side really.

The extension was stupid and front loaded in the sense that he had 2 years of arbitration left and they could have easily signed him for less. They overpaid for his arbitration years for the right to overpay for a few years of FA. Because he was a solid bet to not suck too terribly. Not sure there is a more quintessentially “Atkins” move than that one.

If not for that extension, Grichuk would have been a FA this year. His money could go to someone like Bradley, Ozuna, or Pederson.
