OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Mega overpay for this player at this age, but that’s how it works. Hopefully his bat is still playable at 36, but most likely they’ll be eating some money at the end of this deal. That’s ok.

So the OF should be Gurriel-Springer-Hernandez with Grichuk mostly in the 4th OF role but getting some starts when Hernandez is at DH or Gurriel needs rest. Huge improvement, but still not a strong defensive group.

Brantley doesn’t make much sense to me at this point.

I’d still like them to sign JBJ to play CF

From The Athletic. The part I bolded = AMEN.

McGrath: This is the largest free-agent signing in Blue Jays history. Secondly, it’s a major deal for a market like Toronto that is often viewed as less attractive to U.S. superstar players. It’s a big get, in terms of value and magnitude, and ranks among the franchise’s other most noteworthy deals, including Roger Clemens, Russell Martin and Hyun-Jin Ryu. More than anything, it’s also significant to see the Blue Jays spend like the major-market team that they are.

Maybe now make that deal for Bryant and Hendricks.
Getting greedy now, I want Bryant. The lineup would lean heavily to the right, but it would be formidable.

Bichette
Biggio
Springer
Bryant
Vladdy
Hernandez
Gurriel
Tellez
Jansen

This article from December had the Jays as a potential fit for Bryant, with a laughably light package to get him: Derek Fisher, Reese McGuire, Kevin Smith, Josh Winckowski.

These 2 dorks delivered in 2 straight years . Give them some credit for taking over a team in complete rebuild mode and being close to contending now .

Full credit for the ryu and springer signings. Great players.

But im not crediting this team as being “close to contending”. They still only have 1 established starting pitcher. Offense looks great right now but their defense is poor.

And shatkins didn’t take over a rebuilding team. They took over a playoff team ans pissed away a bunch of talent.

Also, This team would be better today paying out the last 2 years on price and donaldson instead of springer and ryu.

Go back to that 2016 team and who is still in the league or still playing at their level top level ?

90 % of that team is done , we simply agree to disagree ….no problem

We were a gut job away in a short time with a putrid minor system that had no young talent ready to take over

You are trying to argue that a team that made back to back appearances in the LCS was "rebuilding" - that is quite simply an asinine position to take and suggests you fundamentally misunderstand what 'rebuilding' entails. And your revisionist history about the strength of the farm system is also inconsistent with facts.

lol

In 2016 alone they added Bichette, Biggio and Guerriel, on top of Vlad.

You don't need to blow it up and tank to rebuild a farm system in baseball. They could have been in contention mode the entire time rather than selling low/letting go all of their best players.
