The Fucking Offseason Thread - Why bother waiting?

For all the hate on the playoffs chokers, kerfoot gets precious little praise for showing up.

That being said - Seattle is the only team that would have to pay his signing bonus back to us. For any other team he's only $1.9m in real money each of the next 2yrs.

Meh.

He was just bathed in the reflected glory of William Nylander.

I think they would have wanted more for mcCann than Hallander, but nobody was offering it.
I think they fell in love with their own prospect again. And they decided they were gonna lose one of these two or three guys and this was the best return they could get. They certainly couldn’t trade Kappy back to us for Hallander and not get totally ridiculed.

Agreed. I’m fine with the decision to protect Holl. For the first time in I don’t even know how long, I was happy with the right side of our defense last year.

I also have no confidence in Travis Dermott’s ability to both play on his off-side and step into the top-4. And you’d have to be nuts to pencil Liljegren into that role next season either.

But if we coughed up a decent prospect because Dubas wants to keep Kerfoot around, that’s a pretty depressing thought. He’s a poor use of cap space, a bad third line center and a mediocre at best winger on either of the top-2 lines.

Beyond Kerfoot - it kind of feels like we're going to see more or less the same team next year just without hyman. And it's fair to say the issue this year wasn't the supporting cast but the big two (and JT going down to injury), but at the end of the day there were still weaknesses with the team that don't look like they're going to get addressed.

You didn't think that until Mindz told you to think it.

Fact is dubas was the guy who traded for McCann, even though every other GM could have as well.

You can’t lose to Montreal, with or without Tavares. We’re lacking quality forward depth - more accurately scoring depth because our supporting cast is actually very good defensively. So we’re about to lose Hyman apparently and a guy who could’ve been an adequate replacement for him. Frankly we need Kerf, Hyman, and McCann but will probably only have one of them.

What were the weaknesses, other than the $33m men scoring 1 goal in the playoffs?

Uh, when did Mindz even say that? I already joked about it yesterday saying they missed Kapanen first, then Hallander. You’re the only one getting incepted around here, including by Dubas remotely.

Every other GM could’ve traded for every other player ever traded. What kind of proof of anything is that.

They need a third line c.

Guys like hyman McCann and kerfoot are fine but that’s where you need value adds, and analytics to be your competitive advantage.

McCann to his credit is solid value at 2.9 if he can continue to produce. Market hyman and kerfoot at 3.5 earn too much for what they bring.

Dubas has got to find ways to add those caliber players without spending 3.5+ per head.

Unless you draft them, where are those caliber guys coming from when they all make roughly the same amount?

People are criticizing Dubas for not valuing McCann properly even though he's the GM that bid highest for him.
