GDT 7: Leafs @ Canes, 7 pm, SN - Fuck you Jobu...

I hope we get a full report on the Freddy afterparty last night. Lots of cocaine and Call of Duty I suspect.

Does he still get paid by the Leafs? Because they look like chumps allowing this. I'm so tired of this organization being so nice.

Yeah, I’ve learned to not automatically set time aside for them in the evening whenever they’ve got a game, and if I do decide to watch, to quickly turn the game off when the entertainment value is zero.

Some good lessons.
very good advice. I turned it off near the middle of the second period and my evening immediately improved.

The timing was pretty much identical for me. After the 2-1 goal, I turned off the TV and grabbed a book to read, and actually enjoyed the rest of my evening.

So when does someone get fired
Kinda looking like this with Keefe. Team is disinterested and disorganized, doesn't start games with energy or desire, hasn't been pushing back when down. For having some of the best offensive forwards in the league, the PP is disastrously 26th (oddly, better than Colorado who've had COVID issues)...and it's becoming a multi-season issue. Only the PK has been good. One item...one.

Cutting Keefe and company may be the first step prior to sending out all the talent...good underlying numbers, but if there's no results, XGF doesn't mean squat. Maybe Keefe needed more seasoning in the AHL (dude has only been coaching professionals for 6 years...that's pretty meteoric)

The team quit on Babcock... I don't really blame them after some of the stories that came out. But if they are quitting on a guy after just two shortened seasons, there's a problem with the core straight up. Keefe has won at every level he's coached and by all accounts is a players coach who guys in the OHL and AHL were willing to go through a wall for. If these bunch of coddled rich boys quit on him, start shipping them out.

Matthews acting like a spoiled punk toward Keefe for being asked to focus on defense against McDavid and co in that Amazon documentary sure seems like a red flag right now.

Coaches grow on trees and are easy to find if you're looking for a quick fix. 90-100 point Olympic hopeful forwards are not.

Change coaches. If that doesn't work, change the core in the off-season when trading $11M contracts is actually feasible.

They did change coaches... less than a season and a half worth of games ago.

Honestly I find myself aligning with the idea that letting these two bury another coach that they don't like is a bad idea. Its time for them to be uncomfortable and find a way. The org has done everything. Let Lou walk, fired Babcock, paid them top dollar, got rid of Lou era policies, went further than any club in the league on dress code for games, etc. Its time for them to find a way to make this work, the organization has done enough pandering

As much as I understand why it happened with Babcock, you absolutely can’t let these guys quit on another coach and run him out of town mid-season.

The endless coddling of these guys and bending to their every whim has to stop somewhere. Especially when they’ve rewarded the organization with zero real success since they ran Babcock out of town.

The team has pretty clearly made some systems issues that they’re struggling with.

gone are any stretch passes, less speed through the neutral zone, less east - west possession play, the 5 man cycle in the o-zone with the forward up high.

In the ozone we’re seeing two forwards in front of the net, less cycle play and more focus on point shots
They seem to still want their d to play aggressively at the points, and they still struggle to get shots through, so there have been lots of odd man rushes against.

it also looks like more dump ins / fewer controlled entries but that may be circumstantial.

I thought all the guys skating into each other yesterday was pretty telling, though, that the system has changed and something isn’t working.
