I don't think the KK/Galchenyuk picks were bad ones, to be honest. How they ended up was bad, but the picks themselves?
I keep repeating it, but neither one of them should have been in the NHL at 18. We fucked them both and their careers haven't turned out because of it. Galchenyuk was drafted after playing 4 games in a whole season because of an ACL injury. Then, because of the lockout he was participating in the U20, he started as the first line center and by the time the tournament ended, he was the third line winger. Sorry, but if you aren't able to dominate the U20, you ain't ready for the NHL. This isn't 20/20 hindsight, you could see it happening in real time.
Galchenyuk is almost out of the league because his legs are toast more than him not being able to play. Watch Galchenyuk skate when he was with us (and scored 30) and then watch him skate now. He can't move anymore.
The only thing that is worrisome about Michkov is that he's going to be in Russia until he's 21, and we'll only see him in the NHL starting the 2026-2027 season. That also means we have no control over his playing time, his opportunities, etc. He'll always be at the mercy of what his KHL club wants.
I want to see where Florida finishes this year. If we can have one pick in the 5 to 7 range and one in the 10 to 12 range, we've got a great opportunity.
