Yeah, its a pretty good looking list of drops

I think Rojas and Stephen were the only ones that looked like a real potential loss to me.

Stephen:

Since the trade

Stephen spent over a month on the Injured List and didn’t make his debut until August 24th, ironically against the Blue Jays’ Double-A team. In three innings of work, Stephen pitched two batters over the minimum, striking out two in the process before departing.

His other start on August 31st didn’t go nearly as well. Stephen retired just one batter, giving up six earned runs while facing seven batters. With the Guardians, he has a 16.20 ERA and 2.09 FIP in 3.1 innings pitched. Stephen’s K% only stands at 11.1% since joining the American League Central team, but he hasn’t given up a home run or a walk, hence the low FIP.

With two weeks left in the Double-A season, Stephen will likely make two more starts before the season ends.

The Varland trade still vexes me. He's was real good this year, but only this year and he was really expensive because of years of control, which i could give a fuck about for a RP. It's almost like they didnt learn anything from the Swanson deal.

Id've rather payed less or the same for Bednar or Duval, better RP, or more for Jax, same level of control, but more proven years

I have a good feeling about Varland. He's going to be important, and really good when it matters.
I like the pitcher fine. I hate that we paid a premium because he's controlled. Fuck years of control for the RP position.

There were better RP out there that cost less cause expiring.

I doubt they only got him because of control. They got Dominquez without giving a shit about control.

A lot of commenters after the trade expressed shock that Varland was traded at all.

His cost was attributed to the control, the shock was because he was controlled.

Again, he's having a great year, but first time ever. He was expensive because of the control.

Bednar and Doval are better, and more proven talents, and went for less.

Astros were down 5 heading into the 9th but Bednar let in a run and now loaded the bases and the tying run is at the plate with 1 out.

The other top relivers would have costed way more in return

Varland will be fine and France has been solid so far

The only ones who would have cost way more are Duran and Miller, we were never an option for them

Bednar and Doval are in fact better and cost less.

Pirates get: C Rafael Flores (Yankees' No. 8 prospect), C/1B Edgleen Perez (Yankees' No. 14), OF Brian Sanchez

Giants get: RHP Trystan Vrieling (Yankees' No. 19 prospect), C/3B Jesus Rodriguez (No. 25 prospect), LHP Carlos De La Rosa, 3B Parks Harber

Is Roden and Rojas that much of an overpay

Wanted to do a comp of the Jays vs Yanks, both on this season stats and the projections, both as a comp for this series and a potential playoffs matchup.

I tried my best to make the matchups as logical as possible based all on performance, age, role, pedigree, etc. but it'll never be perfect. think I cam close tho.

The two teams look pretty comparable here both on this year's performances and on the projections. Yanks do have the Judge advantage tho.

This is where it gets a little trickier.

Based on this year's stats the Yanks have a pretty huge advantage in the starting pitching....but that completely disappears in the projections, which actually like Toronto's starters better....and by a solid amount.

Based on this year's stats the two bullpens have actually been pretty comparable.....but the projections like the Yanks' bullpen much better going forward (though they still like the jays' bullpen too).
