Earlers gotta be feeling good about the 8 year, $14 million AAV Draisaitle contract right now. That's actually a tradeable contract because Leon would be about the best player on just about any team with a now reasonable deal.

Proposed trade that I don't see how Edmonton refuses: KK, Freddie, and J* Slavin straight up for Leon.

*Josiah but Edmonton won't know that because the deal will just say "J Slavin" or "a Slavin"
 
Max Pacioretty has a new job, Special Assistant to the Head Coach at the University of Michigan. He was drafted out of the USHL and played his freshman season at Michigan before signing with the Habs.

The makes the Kaprizov contract buyout proof. It also exposes very little of the compensation to 'away taxes'.

However, having those huge signing bonuses exposed to Minnesota State income taxes is no picnic. The top of the progressive state income tax rate for Minnesota in 2025 is a whopping 9.85% for income just over $200k if he files as single. That's a cool $12 million+ for the State of Minny over the next 8 years. He just became a favorite citizen to the Minnesota Treasury Department.

It looks like the Luke Hughs saga in New Jersey is done, 7 years/$9 million AAV per Elliotte Friedman
 
As someone on Twitter pointed out, Shayne Gostisbehere has more points in fewer games in the last 2 seasons than Hughes. Ghost has 17 goals, 84 assists in 151 games. Hughes has 16 goals, 75 assists in 153 games.
 
Hughes is at the beginning of his career, as opposed to Ghost, and really only got power play time for that chunk of last season when Dougie was hurt. Otherwise he's been sheltered and not put in a position to produce much. I'm not a huge fan of the guy and he's a far cry from his brother Quinn, but he's got a ton of upside. $9 mil worth of upside, I dunno. Still, better to have that locked in than not ... especially if they're really going to make a run at Quinn.
 
The Mammoth traded goalie Connor Ingram to Edmonton for future considerations. The Mammoth retain 41% of his salary. Ingram is headed straight to AHL Bakersfield, he never went to Utah’s camp.

Per Cory Lavalette, more than half his points have come outside of 5v5, he only has 41 points at 5v5.

Lord, I am just now remembering that the Wild still have Parise and Suter on their books. What is their buyouts cap hit?
