Shocking absolutely no one. If he's even AHL average he could be in Edmonton by US Thanksgiving.
Yeah I get all that, but his even strength usage was heavily weighted towards playing with NJ's bottom 6 ... who have been a freaking black hole offensively during his career. The Devs want to make a run at the Hughes trifecta and they're the ones who actually have the player on their roster so they know what he's been doing and not doing. I get that it's a risk, but I also think that there are a lot of people online who are pointing and laughing and trying to score points. If I was a Devils fan, I'd be a LOT happier if that AAV was something 6-7 million, but I understand why it's not.
He’s a decent player with a lot of hype. Hughs brothers etc. That’s a lot of money for a smallish defenseman who hasn’t really lived up to the hype. It’s cool that there are 3 brothers who all are very good hockey players. I’m glad it’s the devils trying to collect those kinds of unusualities instead of gathering the best available players.

To be fair, IMO Quinn Hughes is the best defenseman in the league when he's healthy, and I don't think it's particularly close. So they ARE trying to collect the best possible players. Or one of them at least.
Mikkola basically doubles his salary next season. Good on him. I thought he played well for the Rangers in 2023 and the Panthers last season. He's pretty limited but what he can do he does consistently well.
Same kind of stretch the Devils made with L Hughes. He was was really good last year when they kind of over-slotted him against better opposition. Before that he had looked pretty middling in a sheltered role. Some guys just like to be challenged. Still, he's turning one promising season into a bunch of dough
The Panthers and Lightning played last night. The Panthers won 7-0. They scored an 8th goal but it was wiped out because the refs realized that Niko Mikkola was in the ice after having received a game misconduct, one of 13 handed out. Nice work by the officials to not notice that for 10 minutes of game action.

PuckPedia tweeted that the “paper loan” prohibition does t take effect until October 10, so teams can still use it to set their opening night roster, loan a player o the AHL, put another player on LTIR and recall the loaned player, who had never left the team.

Sure. Simplify the roster rules but make sure to chicken out on putting any changes in place until after the season starts. Average NHL behavior.
The paper transaction rule is really part of the CBA extension that doesn’t take effect until next season. Some of the new rules, like the playoff cap compliance will take effect for this season but others, especially those that technically take place before the seasons starts, appear to have been deferred.

Well, if you thought that McDavid not yet signing an extension was going to be a hot topic around talk radio and message boards, McDavid and his agent did us all one better. Yes that is an extension. For WAAAAAAAAAYYY under market value. And for only 2 years which effectively means he gave Edmonton just a little bit more time to figure it out and win a Cup while significantly underpaying the best player in the World.
Now we get spend at least the next 2 seasons wondering what happens as McDavid approaches his walk season in just 2 seasons from now. By the time he can sign his next extension, the cap will be $113.5 million, giving him a ceiling of $22.7 million per season.
