Spin and put words into my mouth all ya want.

You are not going to convince me that there wouldn’t have been any benefit to having a guy with a chronic injury who’d previously missed an entire month due to said injury rest for a couple of weeks in-season, instead of spending two weeks playing in a playoff-style best-on-best tournament.

It’s a dead simple, easy decision to make if the player’s priority is to give themselves the best possible chance to finally lead their team to some playoff success after a decade of abject failure.
Nearly six decades, actually, but point taken.

The man was cleared to play by actual DOCTORS, and there's nothing wrong with wanting to play for your country. Every player was excited about that tournament.

The closest person to a doctor here is Presto anyway, so I agree with his diagnosis. Hating on Matthews for this is just like Donald Trump trying to fit a star shape through a hexagon hole here. IMO.

Very few members of the current roster were alive in 1967, so it isn't fair to blame them for what happened before they could attempt to address it.
Much like no active hab is responsible for not winning the cup for the past 32 years.
When you put on the jersey, you become culpable. Not winning the Cup since 1993 isn't Nick Suzuki's or Lane Hutson's "fault", but as Habs they are now and forever "responsible" for the fact that they've not won it since then. The weight of expectations always falls on whoever puts on that sweater. It isn't fair; it just is what it is.

And the same holds true (or ought to) in Toronto. Matthew Knies and Willie Nylander aren't at fault for the Leafs' 59-year drought, but the fact that they are Leafs makes them responsible for it. Responsible for ending it.

What if presto was the “doctor”?

Not betting on Sammy scoring much, just stating that "fluke" goals count too, and that if more Leafs would crash the net we'd probably be scoring more.

Sure, they would score more. But that was the entire idea behind bringing in Berube and playing his system. Something something playoff goals. But as it turns out, the data actually says that winning teams in the playoff score on rush chances. Something we've more or less given up on.

To put it another way: #AllGoalsMatter

But systemically, we only seem to be interested in the gritty ones.

This is a joke organization with these fools in charge.

Why would you ever sit Robertson in favor of Blais if you are serious about anything?

I'm past the point of believing there's any hope as long as these incompetents are running the show.

Even if Matthews was firing on all cylinders, it wouldn't change that they are not set up to win anymore.

It is funny Blais stays because he scored. but Robertson also scored in the same game.
I mean who do they need more of right now of the 2? The answer is clear.

Gotta point out here as well, this is going on way too long and Leafs look bad not moving Robertson. He requested a trade offseason, 2024. I get you don't want to move him for little and get burned, but at some pint you can't have it both ways. Play him real minutes or move him.
