OT: The Official Toronto Raptors Thread

We're so fucked. There could be someone else who jumps in and commits ritual suicide to do it. But I have to assume that 1) Milwaukee expects to get paaaaaiiiiidddddd and 2) They'll give Giannis a ton of input on where he goes as long as #1 is reasonably met. But I can't see there being more than a few teams that have the assets and salary match + Giannis would potentially be interested in going to.

In theory....

OKC are easy favourites if Presti wants him - If it's mid season, iHart + Dort + very valuable picks would do it. Off season, Chet + good filler (they have a ton...Cason Wallace or something) + picks

Lakers can never be counted out, they seem to magically fucking materialize top 10 players onto their roster whenever they want: Reaves + Hachimura + as much draft equity as they can offer

I do think we would at least stand a chance in this fight - Scottie + their pick of good salary filler (CMB, etc) + as many 1sts and swaps as we're legally allowed to give up

-Knicks will be rumoured but I don't see the fit unless Milwaukee really loves KAT for some reason.

-Cleveland can put together a Mobley based package, but unlike us, they don't have their own picks until 2030 from the Spider trade

-Orlando is a dark horse imo. Paolo probably has a better reputation than he'll ever have on court impact and swapping 32 yr old Giannis for someone you can sell to your fanbase as the future Giannis is an easier sell. Orlando's struggles is salary match (Paolo still on rookie deal) and picks (gone in the Bane trade)

- SAS would be interesting. I can see Giannis wanting to go there because of Wemby (and taxes). I could see the Bucks choice of Harper or Castle, Devin Vassell, quality salary match and draft equity being a thing there.

But all of it comes down to whether or not Presti wants him. If Presti wants him, it's a fucking wrap. Dude has 3 lottery picks he can trade him this year plus an analytics star centre and the type of 3&D 2-3 that gets you multiple picks in return by himself on the trade market. Want a fast tear down? The Bucks could easily turn Giannis into 5-6 lottery picks in this year's draft through an OKC trade if the do it long enough before the deadline that they can flip out iHart and Dort. Fuck, I'd happily see us pay a mint in draft equity for those two and then move Jake to get a pick back.

I just don't see the trade that works for both teams between them without it turning into a historically massive trade including 3-4-5 teams and even then it has to be with KAT for money match and someone like OG for assets getting spun out at full price elsewhere, or Milwaukee really, really valuing one of the two of them for some fucking reason.

It's not impossible, but it's going to be complicated if it happens.

it happen when your team sucks and you're a chucker

somebody has to get points

They do, but Mike James shot 40% from 3 on high volume. Like, he was chucking, but he was chucking efficiently on his way to 20 a night.

Spurs make the most sense for me while their yutes are under ELC salary control

They can make a title push with 2 studs before Giannis is older and stupidly more expensive if they resign him

OKC won a chip and inline for more they dont need him

Use those brevy of picks to reshape and retool on the fly as your players get more expensive next year

Presti can stay competitive for the next 7+ years as players exit and those picks on the cheap fill out their roster

If they didnt win or have a short window like other teams sure pull the trigger , but why fuck up those potential lottery picks for Giannis who has maybe 2-3 great years left in him

Yeah I'm not sure Presti is going to just sit there on his picks and let another super team competitor made up of two of the best 5 players in the world come together to fuck up his plans for the next 5 years.

At absolute minimum hes going to be involved in the talks and driving the price to the moon.
