Sounds to me like he was told to tank, and he's tanked. He inherited a busted ass situation from Bowman and has hard tanked since being given the job. They took on a bunch of bad salary for assets and are starting to build up a pretty serious base of young NHL calibre players. The bad salary starts coming off of the books this summer, with almost 20 million of it coming off next summer.

It's hard to believe he can be a genius at doing that but so terrible at building an NHL roster. He's certainly been conservative in adding to the big league club, but this is assuredly a designed tank and i think an extension is warranted.

Out of the remaining names left that have been publicly linked to the Leafs, Gillis is probably the only one I could live with.
