Playoff GDT: Round 1, Game 3 Canes @ Sens 4/23 7:30

Well congrats, Canes. Your boy Stankoven's having himself a grrreat time, and it looks like Ehlers and Miller (couple of my faves from exotic parts of the League) are working out okay, too. Finish off them "Hens," y'all. 👍😊

That was NOT intentional head hitting, not even close.
Hall did rise up into the hit and got sanderson’s head with his shoulder. Part of the problem was that Sanderson was partially hunched over so the only way for Hall not to make head contact is to come in hunched over too and stay down. Otherwise the hit was completely clean. Not on the numbers, puck was there, etc. DOPS is a total crapshoot so who knows?

If Hall gets suspended for that the league will show it has a real problem. I see hits 10 times worse than that never get called or reviewed on a nightly basis…. And that is just from Tkadickhead…. Give me a break

How does Greene explain that the hit was the reason Sanderson left the game, but he stayed on the bench for six minutes after the hit, and only left the game after he took a puck to the hand?
Green is pulling some gamesmanship in the hopes Hall gets suspended and the Canes hottest line in the series gets shutdown! That’s his only motivation with his post game ranting on the topic.

Yeah Green has got a tough hill to climb there to get to credibility. Sanderson certainly didn’t look like he had his bell rung in the least.

Couple of thoughts …

Pretty much a textbook Canes road win last night. They choked the life out of Ottawa with possession, and made just enough of their chances pay off to grab the W. They also made an absolute has of their power play chances, which made it tighter than Ottawa deserved. One thing you generally always see in Canes road wins is that the expected goals line actually spikes UP when the other team is pushing for a goal late in the third. If you had to define Rod Brind’Amour’s teams as a coach … a screen shot of one of those xG charts is a good way to do it.

I keep saying this, but I’m not sure Ottawa’s coaching staff knows why they’re losing these games. You HAVE to break up Carolina’s possession game with your own extended zone time, and when the Sens play a patient game in the O zone, they look pretty good. But they just keep barfing up the puck on fancy plays and hopeful crossing passes, which leaves them out of position to set their forecheck and get meaningful pressure on Carolina’s outlet. That lets Carolina off the hook and lets them reset the possession clock over and over again.

Shame about Sanderson. I really appreciate his game and I think it sucks both that he got hurt and that his coach is using him as some sort of bait in a fishing expedition. I don’t think the league will bite, but you never know. Yeah, Hall got him high on that hit, but it’s freaking Taylor Hall and he’s got a LOT of career to examine. Yeah, he does occasionally get nasty, but he’s generally not subtle about it when he loses his cool. That hit just wasn’t that. He threw a shoulder and happened to catch Sanderson in the head. I’m not even convinced that Sanderson left the game because of that hit and not because of the puck he took to the hand later on, honestly. You’d hate to think Green would lie about such a thing, but … yeah. Either way, you hate to see good players get hurt.

If you’re Brind’Amour you have to feel good heading to Game 4 with a chance to get this done early. The Canes haven’t played great, but they’ve gotten to their game in all three outings. Most of what they have to work on is detail stuff, and the freaking power play again. Sigh.

Are you referring to thebTkachuk penalty in the 3d? There was no hit to the head. Not even close.
The elbow came up, but yeah … it was because he was busy spearing Martinook. Good thing Marty didn’t get speared AND hit in the head. Not that Tkachucklehead would have minded.
