Thats' the problem with the debate. Some people think numbers are BS, others think they're some fancy mathematical secret formula.
It's just info. The good orgs don't make a big deal about it.

Pelley and ownership got complacent. They weren’t worried about the Leafs.
The should have been, because the writing had been on the wall for a long time, but they clearly didn’t think they had to be and weren’t paying close enough attention.
And for all his faults, firing Shanny only made things worse. He would’ve fired Berube in November.

He was too late. And being too late may afford them the opportunity of getting a top 5 pick and hire a person of his choice. It is what it is. Can't do anything about the timing of the firing now. I'm just glad he decided to observe at the deadline so he can see the trainwreck with his own eyes, which allowed him to eventually make the right decision.
Data is part of the overall arsenal available to each team , it cant be the end all to all decisions
You need to understand what the hell you are in the hierarchy before you make your decisions
Regimes simply kick the can down road trying to save jobs and dont make rational decisions

That article was ridiculous. Leafs and NJ have been looking into Chayka for a long while, he fits the job description that Pelley laid out in the presser. Domi has connections with a lot of people, Pelley happened to like the one with prior GM experience. I'm good with that, now let's see how it goes!

Pelley has been concerned about the Leafs organization "culture" and lack of pride that seemed to have been creeping back in after Shanahan sort of revived that pride. That's the Sundin bit.
And then Chayka is the data driven guy. Both seem in line with what he said at the presser. I'm confused that people are so confused about this whole thing tbh.
You can hate the choices, but the roles of each person make sense based on what Pelley said he wanted to me.

I'm not sure Friedman had all the information there. He said Mats was VP and above Chayka, that is not the case. I think Chayka was their guy and they wanted to announce them together. But that required Mats taking time to think about it and negotiating the contract, duties, etc.
It's a lot of missing information from the reports that have fans filling in the blanks and making this appear weirder than it actually was IMO. And I'm all for bashing the fuck out of the Leafs. I just don't get it at this point, unless you really hate Chayka. Which is fine and the only "argument" against this entire process until we have more information imo.
