Except I didn't say any of that. I said that I didn't see a rational argument for Horvat costing significantly more than Schenn did when all is considered and then broke out a half dozen players of similar calibre who were traded recently to support that.

We simply disagree. Which I’ve been saying for a bit.

Schenn is 3.5 yrs older, and fallen off his prime.

Horvat is better both offensively and defensively plus he’s elite at faceoffs. He gets tough usage because he’s a solid matchup/shutdown center who can score 28- 35 goals.

That’s catnip for most GMs

He’s not being dealt for a late first and just a good prospect as you said.

I wish you were right though because the Habs have a a giant hole at C… and they have a late first and plenty of prospects

When you put a few C's at W, he makes the 5th line. If you don't, he's our 7th line centre.

Except I've never limited my argument to Schenn, he was just the first of almost 10 examples I've brought up now, all of them somewhere in that range of 1st rounder to 1st + good prospect. I don't know what you keep fixating on him.

Coyle, Hertl, Nelson, Reinhart, Cozens, JT Miller I've mentioned already. Can add Kadri, & Granlund to the list as well.

None of them cost significantly more than B Schenn did. That's just the market for 2C's when they go up for sale.

That’s also my argument. I said If you want a bargain, go ahead and look around. There’s always some guys on a rack in the back of the store with a 30% off sticker because they had a shit year, got too expensive, got old, never lived up to expectations, etc

Horvat is not in that pile right now.

You're missing the point though...that's not the bargain rack, that's the market. That's who has been traded. I'm not leaving out a pile of other 2C's who have been traded for more. When similar players actually get traded, that's what they go for. Some of the names were flat out better players than Horvat at the time they were traded. Some a bit worse, but all similar enough to be useful as a comparable.

If you want to pay over market for something not for sale, that different. There's a difference between does he cost and what should he cost. He costs whatever NYI's front office says he does. He should cost something resembling the return similar players have brought in previously though.
