The Official 2026 Off-Season Thread: Revenge of the Nerds

Tre was hired at the same time, he seemed totally overwhelmed with everything going on didn’t have time to look at Keefe, even though everyone knew he’d be fired, didn’t have time to try and trade Marner, even though everyone knew he had to.

I don’t entirely agree with this framing of events.

I don’t think Treliving keeping Keefe was a result of him feeling overwhelmed, or not having enough time to conduct a coaching search.

I think that was a product of the typical cowardice/accepted wisdom of old boys club members. Where you “save your bullet” and keep the old regime’s coach until you need a convenient scapegoat to save your own ass once your seat starts heating up a bit. Instead of just hiring what you think is the best possible candidate from the start, since you fear how it’ll reflect back on you if they don’t work out.

As for Marner, I think there were strict instructions in place from Shanahan (that Treliving probably agreed with—part of why he got the job) that the core was not to be touched, and that the team was going to run it back no matter what.

Chayka’s interviews have calmed me on a couple of subjects that were making me nervous.

It seems we’re pretty locked in on McKenna.

And apparently Matty loves being in TO and has zero desire to leave.

I’m genuinely curious about what Carlo’s value is currently around the league. One year removed from getting Minten and a 1st, but from the all time dumbest executive. That said, he still has a name and still shoots righty.

If I’m Chayka, I’m trying to find any team with a late 1st that needs help now over a prospect a few years out and try to build something around Carlo. We have to deal him now.
