2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

While I know that people will freak out when Florida eventually signs Gudas, please keep in mind just how slow and crappy he’s gotten before reacting.

Oh, they need a guy to absorb some suspensions so the DPOS can pretend the same rules apply to the Panthers. He’s perfect for that.

Gudas is slow and aging. He is a POS who took out Crosby in the Olympics and ended Matthews season this year— perfect for Florida. I forgot this is his 2nd time with FLA.

The Panthers solved their goalie problem. They sent a 2028 3rd rounder to Vegas for Akira Schmid.

I mean, his story isn’t as crazy as Bussi’s but Aiden Hill also won a Cup as a full time playoff starter three seasons ago before he turned back into a pumpkin. That’s two backup-level Cup winning goalies in 5 years. You never know.

I saw where Minnesota didn’t make a qualifying offer to Bobby Brink. They’re reporting that the Wild still intend to get him re-signed but they could well have just handed him over to a free agent market with almost no offense-minded forwards and even less offense-minded forwards under 30. I get that he’s small, but that’s risky and the QO would only have been around $2 mil.

Akira Schmid was lit up like a Christmas Tree by the Canes in that Devils series from the past at Lenovo...I am ok with this trade! The bigger question is, does Florida have another goalie signing like Freddy coming tomorrow???

I’ve seen Florida fans speculating about all sorts of names. But they mostly seem focused on Hellebuyck, even thought that’s by far the most complicated and probably going to take a long time to cobble together. There are so few free agents that Freddie and Bob don’t look so bad and even freaking Stuart Skinner looks like an option.

That‘s the GM of the year working his magic.

I mean, it’s a minor issue but I really don’t understand why you trade for Brink at the deadline, barely play him and then fail to offer him a QO. There’s no point to any of that unless they just hated David Jiricik so much that they wanted him gone … but didn’t hate him enough just to waive him for termination. Heck, Jiricik is cheaper than Brink so they also wasted the cash difference. Normally I applaud GMs for walking away from QOs for guys they don’t really want in their systems, but I honestly don’t get this whole thing on any level. Brink is a Minny kid too. Way to treat a homeboy like crap.

We might as well tear it down and rebuild now. Panthers are the greatest team ever assembled.
The Panthers will do one of two things next season with that roster...bludgeon and murder their way to another Cup or lead the league in man games lost to injury with all those old farts getting hurt and shelved for months at a time...they certainly will not win with the type of hockey we were treated to in this past year's Cup Final, that much is certain!
