It must be final now … it’s on Puckpedia and LeBrun has it as a done deal.
So for Florida, they go from a goaltending battery of Bob and Tarasov to Markstrom and Schmid. They were spending around $11 million AAV and now they’re spending $6 mil on Markstrom and whatever they can get Schmid signed for. His old deal was $875K … so figure a little more than $1 mil. That’s decent work in the short term, as Markstrom is probably about the same as late career with a lot of miles Bob and a fair amount cheaper. I’m a bit surprised they went with the Schmid deal though. Tarasov was OK for them last season and would cost roughly the same.
That leaves Florida with $4.4 million in Cap space with 12 forwards and 6 D, so they’ll need to figure out some extras. It also means they aren’t upgrading their position groups. And without Greer, Rodrigues and Boqvist their depth has taken a pretty sizable hit. Oh, and that puts them out of the running for any of the bigger names that have been rumored to want to play in the parking lot in Sunrise.
