2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

Rangers fans seem mixed on the rumor that they are trying to land Nikishin. They still think Miller is a useless bum, and think Boom will be too. Nikishin for Trocheck ain't happening though.

Rangers fans are the absolute best evaluators of Dman talent.

I would rather not trade Nikishin within the Metro Division unless one of the teams is offering something we really really want (or as part of a Werenski package). Other than Shesterkin, what do the Rangers even have that the Canes would want? Adam Fox? Vlad Gavrikov? I would still take Trocheck back, but not straight up for Nikishin.

After massively overpaying in assets to acquire Bowen Byram from Buffalo, Chicago is going to double down by massively overpaying Byram with his contract extension.

I guess you can look at it as Byram had all of the leverage since Chicago traded so much away to acquire him. Chicago has the cap space to overpay players, but I dunno, if I'm going to overpay to acquire someone and then overpay to keep him, I kind of want that to be a player who has established himself as a clear top pair Dman or very high end forward. Kind of hard for me to put Bowan Byram in that class.

GM Kyle Davidson has pretty much tied the future of his tenure in Chicago to Byram. Byram better work out for them or Davidson is rightfully toast.

Oh, and how good does K'Andre Miller at a $7.5 million AAV for 7 more seasons look now?

Cale Makar will break the bank for sure. Unless he is willing to leave money on the table like McKinnon was, he will get a 15, 16, 17+ million dollar AAV (now on a 7 year max term).

Yeah, Trocheck isn’t enough for a straight swap for Nikishin. Maybe it would be Trocheck+, but they don’t have a ton of assets other than what they have on the NHL roster. Perrault is the only emerging player they have of any interest, and he IS the kind of forward Carolina likes … high skill, good skater, kinda small. Not sure where he’d play here though. He’s more rounded than Nadeau though, so he’d slot ahead of him.

The other option is Fox. Have the Rangers soured enough on Fox and has Fox gotten sick of his dream market to the point where they’d both want to end the relationship? He’s got a full no-trade that converts to a 16 team list next July. If he thinks they’re just going to dump him next summer, then at least he’s got enough control to pick a destination right now. The Canes love to re-visit a player after they’ve swung and missed, after all. If they do get Carlson over the line today, then that option is probably off the table. If they don’t …

Go big or go home! Shesty is the only guy on the Rangers that I even like to trade for, Rangers are going nowhere the next couple of years...Nikishin, Koochie and whatever draft pick or prospect to throw in for Igor...he is the one guy that I would love in a Canes uniform from that shitty team.

The problem with Shesterkin is that the Rangers THINK they’re going to compete again right away. So long as they think that, the big goalie ain’t going anywhere.

And I know most of the board hates Fox (and that he’s still on my list) but he’s a right shot who can run a power play, makes a better first pass than anybody on Carolina’s roster and plays with the kind of savvy that could easily adapt to Carolina’s system if he’s bought it. He and Miller already have familiarity and Fox would be the absolute perfect fit for Slavin, as they cover each other’s deficiencies almost point for point while being really good at what they do well. He’s also 28, with probably 4-5 years of prime left.

If this has been discussed and I missed, I’m sorry

Werensky apparently turned down a deal to move to Dallas after Don Waddell put together a deal that would bring Thomas Harley to Columbus. It’s being sold as Werensky preferring to stay in the East, but … that’s wild. Dallas may be flawed but they ARE a contender. He hasn’t made any noises about having a specific market in mind, but apparently his agent has said that Toronto and Tampa would be “OK with him.” That’s juicing some of the Toronto talk today. It also might give some background to Carolina’s attempt to get Carlson signed, as I do think they were talking with Donny about Werensky early on. If he’s passing on Dallas, he’s probably passing on Carolina as well.

$11.7m x 5 for Hischier in New Jersey on an extension...we can all thank our lucky stars on some of the contracts locked up for Jarvis, Stanky, Blake etc here on the home front!!!
