Around the League 2019-2026 Edition

And imagine guys like Willy at $11.5m and Knies at $7.75m locked in for years watching and going what in the actual fuck.

Too bad we couldn't get Matthews to do the full 8 year deal on the last go.

To underline that shit.....if we had not fucked around and signed all 3 to 8 yr deals after then 2nd seasons instead of fucking them about

- Matthews would likely be entering the final year of a ~8/84 type deal
- Marner would be entering the final year of a ~8/72
- Willy would have just finished a ~8/65 or similar and would be starting his very similar sized extension

Probably the biggest mistake of the whole era really.

That’s a good point about McKenna. He’ll have two full years on his resume before being eligible for an extension

I used to be upset about this “burning a year” of ELC to sign a guy with two games left in the season, but it really worked out well in the case of Hutson and Demidov.

If Habs could’ve only extended Hutson this summer (instead of last year) it would’ve easily cost an extra 5-6m/yr. presumably the same will hold true (to a lesser extent) for Demidov if he could only extend next summer

2nd contract is so much more important than the ELC.

Good. Salaries were always gonna get more efficient once the nerds took over anyway. Bad news for players like the guys Chayka signed on July 1st. Good news for the studs.
Lof please teach me how to reach the acceptance stage. Do you just choose to fry some brain cells and believe that doing dumb shit is actually good? I need to know.

Fuck

It’s just 2-3 year deals, they could all be solid bottom sixers, they’re all tradeable if something comes up, and we’re flexible enough to add a big name at the deadline that would be much better than any player who was available for free a couple days ago.

Keep in mind though, I’m always the optimist by nature, unless I see something totally indefensible and doomed. We can defend the moves, though some are hard, and the best case could be extremely good (Bob kills it, Paul and Roslovic top 20 each, etc.). I keep turning my focus to how much better McKenna, Raddysh, Tanev, and Hiller could make us, which frankly should dwarf the impact of the bottom lines.

My pessimism isn't that they're doomed. I jumped the gun and got my hopes up on Chayka, thinking and hoping he'd be another Mehta. But in the end he's kind of a con artist fake smart guy. Which is fine. That's probably better than Treliving who didn't even pretend to be smart.

I’m with you, but as an eye test guy, I don’t live and die by the numbers. My hope is that there’s something more to the players we got than we’re seeing. But I have serious growing reservations about our pro scouts. Amateur scouts seem great, but pro seems to always be suspect.

I think the guys they got are who they are. Not much mystery about them. They've been 4th liners their whole career, they aren't gonna be better than that at 30+ years old. Paul has had 1 year of 4th line and the year before almost 4th line. Roslovic... he'll score but will frustrate you and disappear in stretches. Bob hasn't been elite for two seasons. So you're hoping for miracle bounce backs on Bob and Paul, but everyone else is who they are.

One thing about Chayka: if they struggle scoring goals or struggle in one particular area, I expect him to do something about it mid-season. He's not brad. Of course, there's risk he's not patient enough and does something dumb, but I prefer a proactive aggressive gm.

I'm inching closer to the acceptance stage
