2015 UFA/RFA Talk

that might be true but Geeman was trying to argue that the Flyers made a conscious decision to sell Carter and Richards at their highest value which is not the case. They traded them for reasons outside of hockey.

your right they traded them for your " reasons" for their highest value in return

I know that but there was a leadership class with Richards/Carter and Pronger and there was the issue of Carter banging Hartnell's wife.

There chose to side with Pronger.

Exactly the culture and dressing room needed a change and the cap was a major issue , something had to get done this BS was talked about for years .

Wait.... LA won two stanley cups with those two players... and Philly has done bupkis since they left. You do realize that, right?

LA goofed by not doing the compliance buyout on richards after the 2nd cup win... but a trade that helps me to two cups? LA wins those deals hands down (and yes Carter was via Columbus).

Apples and oranges . Kings were a solid team with mots the key pieces in place. Clearly those two helped put them over the top. Philly had their run , and with their clubhouse and cap issues something had to give .

While Philly might have gotten good return for Richards & Carter, they removed (arguably) their two best forwards on a team that had just traded three first round picks for Pronger and was among the elite teams of the Eastern conference. They were pretty much one goalie away from winning a Cup, and trading Richard & Carter undid all of that. But they traded them away for futures. Voracek, Simmonds, 1st (Couturier) and Schenn.

They had a real opportunity to win the Cup and they threw it away.

You're assuming that they could have kept Richards & Carter & Pronger on the same team, which was not evident with all the locker room stories coming out of there. I think they were forced to make a move.

All of which may or may not have been true.

Remember that story about how Patrick Sharp was ****ing Duncan Keith's wife and that was the reason Keith was getting divorced?

Turned out that was horseshit.

There's always stupid rumors in the middle of the season that, in all honesty, I don't ever pay any attention to. According to the village idiot on these forums, Price was a cokehead.

What is true is that Philly was in a position to win a Cup and they traded their two best forwards for future assets. If they traded Richards & Carter for, just for example, Kopitar & Nash instead, that would be a whole different conversation. But they didn't and they haven't been close to being a legitimate Stanley Cup contender ever since.

All true, we don't know, but it may have very well be true. It was a surprising move at the time, not one that a team does when everything is going smooth. There was other motivations involved.

Also Simmonds & Voracek were already established 2nd liners in the NHL, they were not complete futures.

And they probably wouldn't have been close to being a legitimate Cup contenders even if they had kept those two. Richards started declining fast after the trade. I guess they gamble on Byzgalov being their best shot at getting a top goalie and lost.

excellent post :thumbup1:

Max Lapierre has signed a one-year deal with MODO.

Renaud Lavoie:
Lapierre has an opt-out in his contract if he signed a contract with an NHL team before the start of the training camp.

The Blue Jackets have signed David Savard to a five-year, $21.25 million extension... $4.25M AAV.

He has one year at $1.3M remaining on his current deal.

Pierre LeBrun:
Franson's AAV in new deal with the Sabres is $3.325 million.

The game is changing for these Franson types. The stars are getting big money regardless. The good kids are hitting home run deals after their ELC is up , and Franson mid level types will be scrambling for what's left over, and it's about time .

Bob McKenzie:
• FLA has given RFA Jonathan Huberdeau what it is terming its best offer on two-year bridge deal. Huberdeau is still mulling it over.
• A couple of teams have been kicking tires on Huberdeau offer sheet but it remains to be seen whether any are bold enough to take the plunge.

Huberdeau was the perfect target for an offer sheet this summer. Florida's a budget team and they had already spent a good chunk of money before Huberdeau being signed.
