2016-17 Champions League

There's almost no money in Europa League aside from ticket sales and Celtic sell out pretty much everything as it is. Absolutely nothing to be gained from that shift. We've gotten all the goody we can out of UEFA for the year, which beats the crap out of not making Groups the previous three seasons.

Group D - Atletico Madrid win the group, Bayern Munich 2nd. PSV Eindhoven must beat Rostov at home to qualify for the Europa League
Group E - Monaco win the group, Bayer Leverkusen 2nd. Spurs must get a point at home against CSKA to qualify for the Europa League
Group F - Borussia Dortmund win the group with a win or draw at Real Madrid. Real win the group with a win. Sporting Lisbon need a win or draw at Warsaw to qualify for the Europa League
Group G - Leicester win the group. Porto finish 2nd with a win against Leicester. Copenhagen must beat Brugge and need a Porto draw or loss to advance. Brugge are eliminated.
Group H - Juventus win the group with a home win against Zagreb. Sevilla need a point at Lyon to qualify but can win the group with a win combined with a Juventus draw or loss. Lyon must beat Sevilla by 2 goals to advance. Zagreb are eliminated.

Juventus win the group, Sevilla 2nd, Lyon 3rd. Dinamo Zagreb had the worst group stage of any club. The were 1 of 2 clubs that didn't earn a point (Brugge was the other), but they didn't score a goal in 6 matches.

Thanks for your support. :wink First group win in 6 years and the fates will screw them. They can't play PSG or Man City, so they can draw Benfica, Bayern, Bayer Leverkusen, Real Madrid, Porto or Sevilla.

Leicester are no better off. Their chances of drawing someone stupidly better than them are very, very good.

True. But this has been a theme with Arsenal finishing 2nd in their group the last 5 years, regularly drawing Barcelona, Bayern, etc. This year, they win their group and Bayern and Real Madrid don't win theirs, so they're still on the table.

There are times when I hate to be right. The draw:

Man City and Leicester on the other hand ended up with much better draws than they could have done given the restrictions.

With the first legs in February, both Leicester and Man City have a chance to regain their form. Leicester went a long way towards that over the weekend, Man City still looked bad. Monaco are in 2nd in their league, 1 point behind Nice and Sevilla are 3rd, 1 point behind Barca but 7 behind Real Madrid.

Arsenal were level for a half. Koscielny went out in the 49th minute and all hell broke loose. If he's out for any appreciable time, Wenger's Champions League streak is toast.

Monaco were up 3-2 after Falcao scored in the 61st minute. City scored 3 in the last 20 minutes. Leicester get the all important away goal as Schmeichel had 5 saves to keep them in the match. Porto played with 10 men for 63 minutes after Alex Telles picked up 2 cards within 90 seconds.

Fox Sports pays about $52 million per year through next year, Turner and Univsion combined on a $100 million per year deal from 2018 - 2021. In another surprise move, ESPN didn't bid at all, relying on a bid from BAMTech, the company spun off from MLB Advanced Media. That would have put some games on ESPN and others on a streaming service.

A. ESPN has been told by parent Disney to knock off the big money rights bids. You'll see them in the leftovers category until such time as their bottom line improves.

B. Turner? Seriously? They haven't made a splash in sports in forever.
