I know you're just trolling, but I'll answer anyway: It's the same reason guys like Dale Weise & Andrew Desjardins can play for Chicago.

Which is that the salary cap system necessitates that a capped out team like Chicago have at least a handful of roster spots filled by serviceable depth NHLers on very cheap contracts. And Panik is a half-decent depth guy. OK size, speed and some skill, and he only costs you 900K against the cap.

That's a useful piece for a "win-now" franchise like Chicago that doesn't really have any NHL-ready depth in the organization outside of the NHL. Not so much for a team like Toronto that could have a half-dozen younger forwards with better potential competing for roster spots next year.

Also---nice to see Chicago and LA both out. Their run of success has been impressive, but it'll be nice to see some new teams go on a run.

Would be nice to see the Sharks or Blues make the finals or take it all. Neither team has gotten over the hump the last several years. On the other side, still cheering for Ovie to get his first cup. Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to see Crosby get his second too.

Agreed. If they win the whole thing though (besides us getting the lower pick), I wouldn't be upset to see Sid get number 2.
